Test drive - Insurance premium!

Featured Replies

hi

Have a test drive booked in a CitiGo coming up, the sales guy informs me I have to pay £12 insurance premium if I want to go out unattended. I test drove a Yeti with this bunch a few months ago, and did not have any cost levied for an unattended drive then.

Has anyone else heard of or had experience of this at all ?

Some dealers do and some don't, personally I would tell him thank you and go elsewhere they have insurance cover, why would they want to charge a potential customer for insurance?, money making ? Or margins very low ?

Walk away my friend and tell him why

They should just chuck trade plates and photocopy your license

Never heard anything so ridiculous

Name and shame them

All I did was sign a form, he stuck some petrol in it and said see you later.

We could have kept it for the rest of the afternoon but we just had an half hour runaround, no charge.

Tell them you'll go elsewhere.

I think I know the dealer, there is only one Skoda dealer that I am aware of in the whole of Dorset. its all well and good saying go elsewhere, but that could mean a 2 hour drive which would use more fuel than paying for the insurance to start with. All dealers are franchises and as such have their own individual rules for test drives and the same for courtesy cars.

Same what happened on my test drive, its better like that though to have the freedom to go wherever

Actually they are just over the border in zummerzet, wouldn't even go anywhere near the Dorset lot!!

And yes it's hobsons choice really, pay up or drive miles or purchase without a drive.

mmm, it would appear that dealers is going all "Ryan air" in it's approach,

Coming next, an admin charge when you do the deal.

I've got a dealer nearer to me, 7 miles away. I did the deal with a dealer 25 miles away because they told me what i wanted to hear, the truth!

yep same, local dealer sherlodge i will not deal with due to past history, so drive an extra 10 mile to beadles, so far no issues good service when i bought my green line

been very fair with me, service department have been great with a paint issue, neither me or them are sure what caused it but was fixed as a good will gesture

It's the same with courtesy cars. Some charge £12 some don't. Mine does but every time I've had one I've never had to pay it ;)
