eBay - you gotta love it

Featured Replies

I've been keeping an eye out for roof bars on eBay. A set came up and was watching until this morning when their bidding was up to ~£80.

They've just gone for £130, plus a courier charge of £10.

FFS! A brand new set is £157 delivered, also on the bay, or from any other online outlet... talk about auction fever

It's frustrating isn't it mate. I recently sold something on eBay - £17 watchers! In the end had 1 bid and sold for a tenner!!

I'm convinced some bid purely to outbid someone else, rather than bidding the maximum they want to pay. Also I'm sure there are those who don't do their research.

Once bid on some Fabia sun shades, the type that cover the rear windows. My max bid was £38. Next look at the auction I won the item for £19. A bid of £39 had been made and cancelled minutes before the auction ended. Presumably this was just a bid by the seller to try see how much I had bid up to, or in the hope I would outbid them. The cheeky git tried to slap the extra £19 on the postage and packaging. I refused to pay, rejected their request to mutually cancel the sale (leaving them lumbered with the ebay fees), and gave negative feedback. Even though it's what I bid, I wasn't being taken for a ride by a seller bidding on their own items.

I had some bars already but the fitting pack for my old car. Thule ones... Halfrauds wanted over 100 quid for the footpack and fitting kit!

Ended up buying separate parts on eBay rather than the kit as a whole...

Guess you mean the Thule aero blade ones! I bid a bit for them upto £50 then realised the halfords carriers I've got wouldn't fit anyway!

Yeah, those are the ones. What carriers have you got? Not the Thule 591?

I have the 753 carriers with the 3003 fitting kit. Apparently the 751 carriers fit too, but are taller. I need to try a set out and see if my top box clears the spoiler with the taller ones...

i love ebay! i got a full interior for a vrs for £55 the other day!!

I got a set of wheels with Yokohama tires with more rubber on them than what was on the car at the time for £47 whoop whoop.

On another note what sort of thing would I be looking at for roof rails?

eg. price, part specs, compatibility, ect...

Ive got the official skoda roof bars that lock on to the car then paired them up with 2 halfords advanced locking bike carriers. Cost me a total of £80 from ebay and theyre all brand new aswell!

I've been after a standard alloy wheel for ages to replace a manky corroding one thats on my car at the moment. I spotted one on ebay a couple of nights ago on ebay but it had no pics and no info on the condition. It was £50 Buy it now.

I messaged the seller asking if he could send me some pics and asked if it was straight and free from corrosion and other marks. He messaged me back 5 mins later "pics are uploaded,is not buckled thanks" so i go back on the auction and sure enough the pics are up, i go to make a drink whilst i decide if i'm going to buy it, 5 mins max, went back to the page with the intention of buying and in the 5 mins i was away the cheeky fecker upped the price to £70!!

I'm 95% certain it was all coriographed to catch me off guard and me just hit the BITN button without realising it had gone up in price.... I sent him a message telling him he's having a laugh, and he can keep the wheel.

The best stuff is always the stuff people don't want to post, as it reduces the number of bidders considerably.
