2.0 TDI Issues

Featured Replies

For all us "imperial" people - that's 313,000 miles. Very impressive indeed!

Even more impressive is that you've done nearly 900 km in the 2 says since you reported 500,000 kms!

That was this morning, done another 450kms today. Its relentless every day, Mon to Fri.

Do you drive for a living???

I'd bloody hope so - you'd never have time for anything else, or another job with that amount of miles!

My 2005 2.0TDI has 95000 on it and so far no real problems. Starting up on a cold morning seems to take some effort, but it's not a consistent thing so I'm not sure what to make of it. Having always been advised to let the turbo idle a while after driving at speed I've not had any problems with previous diesels and don't anticipate and with this

Somehow, with that sort of mileage, I think the answer to that one would be yes!

Any idea why the engine management light is on? -- I can see the engine is running.

Mike

Probably the engine politely requesting for retirement.... :D (I jest!)

The light has been on for 2 years (throttle body) it hasn't affected it in any way so I left well enough alone.

The recent removal of my cat and egr would throw up that light anyway.

There is still a lot of confusion over the EML (Engine Management Light) and its affect on passing / failing an MOT.

However there are people on here (and other forums) that have had their cars passed with the EML light on.

If a dash light relating to brakes, ABS, airbags, stability / traction control etc. is on then these will result in a fail.

Yeah, I'm still not convinced myself Mike, I think the confusion goes as far as the MOT tester themselves which is worrying!

Like you say, some will pass it, others may fail it.

My local MOT tester said he'd likely fail my car if he noticed the that the DPF had been removed, I now know that he shouldn't be able to do this so it would seem some MOT testers are better/worse than others?

It went through the last two tests with the light on. If it becomes an issue with the test regs in the future, I can disable the light for 60euros. My car is not due to be tested again until 2014, by then it will have 600,000kms on it and I won't be driving it.

The good news is that the EGR+Cooler removal has solved my savage coolant loss. What makes the mileage even more impressive is , I had the car remapped a week after getting it from new.

And it's a DSG!......I take comfort in that.

I assume the DMF had been replaced?

My Fl 2010 car had the turbo go at 62k, put up with it for a while before having it replaced along with new springs and shocks on the front, car now drives like new, its got the PD BKD engine so hasnt got a DPF to go wrong.

You could get the map tweaked to remove the EML light as a result of the EGR removal, if you wanted. That's what I did.

The EML is definitely not part of the UK MOT. Warning lights for airbag, ABS, electro-mechanical PAS, TPMS, brake fluid level are all covered by the MOT but the engine management light isn't.

Unfortunately, as with DPF removal, a number of MOT testers seem to be relying on speculation, rumour, what it said in the paper, what their mate says, etc rather than just reading the f****** manual!

If its not in there its not in the MOT.

I didn't replace the pipe, I just had the lads knock the cat out and put the original back on.

Just the once at 130,000kms under warranty.

It is getting a bit noisy now. But fair is fair, nothing is indestructible!!
