  • Here's a link to a Scirocco R with a gloss black roof wrap. Looks amazing, on the race blue. http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/543734_352196871519810_397351515_n.jpg I don't quite know

  • I think that looks well smart, still happy with mine being race blue colour coded though. Any thoughts on the new badge on front I think the all chrome new one would set it off nicely.

  • Yeah, the last thing I need now is to rub through the clear coat

I was being slightly facetious in response to your comparison of black on blue on a pre face lift.

I was merely commenting on the fact that it isn't actually different on a Mk2 Octavia, which the facelift effectively still is, as it's not a Mk3

Sorry not sure I understand, the grill surround / grill / bonnet etc are all different on the facelift?

Mine's on Eibach Pro springs too. Strange that yours rubs.

My boot is often full though of site gear so there is a fair bit of weight at all times in the back. My rear tyres were also wearing on the inside pretty badly and I put it down to spacers as I've had the car 4 wheel aligned.

Just a word of warning with the spacers. I've taken mine off my vRS hatch as they started rubbing the arch and had slightly altered the rear bumper fixing. These were 15mm hub centric

I'll have to keep an eye on it, I have the H&R Cup suspension kit which is a touch lower than the eibach set up.

You can see on the left side of the car the bumper seems to have moved the panel beneath the light cluster. The right side seems fine though.

Not entirely sure this was caused by spacers but I don't know what else it could be.

Incidentally has anyone had any issues with bearing failures due to running these spacers? I still love the look with them and am sorely tempted to refit as the wheel looks lost in the arch without them on :(

That would explain it I reckon; it's very rare I have anything that heavy in my boot. I did have 4 paving slabs and 3 bags of grit sand in once and I did hear it rub when I hit a bump!

I might put them back on tbh. Looks carp without them on.

Do you think I'd need to have my alignment done when they are put on as the car was aligned since I took them off?

Not sure, wouldn't do any harm. I had my my suspension and spacers put on at same time and then had alignment done.

Same here at Midland VW but I might get them to check it again once they're on.

Read on a Golf forum that someone had a pretty bad bearing failure with spacers bit I've not heard of anything on Octy and also think the spacers fitted to that guys car were 20mm which seems too much to me

Think this has gone majorly off-topic :)

Fair point Brimma.

Back on topic - don't like it I'm afraid looks like its ready to be sprayed after a layer of primer.

Do you have any trick how to remove the ribs of the grille from the chrome surround? I was going to try vinyl wrap my grille, but left it alone because I was afraid that I am going to brake some of the clips off.

Primer is grey and not shiny? Each to their own I suppose. My issue with the colour coded look is that it looks very Japanese, like a Mazda 6 mps.

Slowly and carefully using many knives.

The chrome has plastic tabs that hold it in place to the grille. You start at the bottom of the grille and make your way up, unclipping them. I used a couple of old plastic credit cards to wedge in and stop them clipping back in as I went.

Pretty easy really, took about 5 mins to separate it. Just take your time.

I seem to remember to fairly stubborn lengths of grey sticky substance along the bottom edge

That's only on pre-facelift, I've had both and I remember that too on my old car but the FL model doesn't have that.

Actually, I've just had a thought on your rubbing issue. Do you have the eibach springs on standard shocks? If so, then that's the problem. When you have standard shocks the car bounces more, when they are updated shocks, that bounce in better controlled.

I had a B5.5 passat with eibachs on standard shocks and it was bouncy and rubbed when I had 4 people and a load in. I fitted bistens later and the rubbing stopped.

Good call, that could well be it

My mistake, I assumed the general design features would have remained the same, sorry :(

Looks good, like mine  and I have the roof and B pillars done 2012-08-04114150.jpgDSC00148.jpgDSC00152.jpg2012-09-05120944.jpg

Yes it would. The main attraction is getting rid of the green from the badge. The black and silver should compliment just about any combination of grille/body colours.

thanks for advice guys. I'll have another go next weekend.
