Brake peddle noise

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the forum, Just a quick question, I recently picked up an 09 2.0Tdi 170 Elegance,

I have noticed that when I depress the brake peddle that there is a funny sound sort of like a rubbing/whoosing sound, like someone using a foot pump,

I have read on the forum about brake issues but I have nothing else that I feel is wrong, Everything feels fine, the brakes work well and go hard when the ignition is of with out loss of pressure, I have read there is a noise when pressing a brake peddle as it is a release from the peddle side of the servo vacuum, does that sound right, or is it simply rubbing on seals around the piston as it enters the servo, I have noticed that the white gaiter from the back of the peddle has some holes in it were the piston attaches the peddle, I imagine these could be to release air in the gaiter.

I think I'm being a bit paranoid and think I can vaguely remember my old car doing the same. can anyone else check their brake pedal to see if this noise is normal as from what I can find on the net it is to be expected

Thanks all

any car i have ever had makes this noise, its normal, its like a shock absorber noise. Maybe the ambient noise in this car is less so you can hear it more.
