Valuation of 59 plate facelift VRS?

Featured Replies

Can anyone suggest what the going rate in a private sale might be for a 59 plate VRS?

It's will be three years old in January, has done 56000, so has a bit of warranty left. It's a petrol 2.0T in black and has 18" alloys, dual zone climate and the jumbo box (not sure if they were standard issue or not) plus the Bolero stereo. Tyres are all on 3mm and it's got the odd minor scratch but no damage that I can see and it's never been crashed.

Glass's guide through Vauxhall suggests £7k as a trade in and we buy any car says the same (though they would obviously haggle it down) which are both way off a private sale price but I can't see any similar cars on ebay or autotrader to get a better idea.

What do you say - what would be a fair price to be buying/selling such a car?

This is fairly close, but at a trader: http://goo.gl/d9DBd

As you've found, there don't seem to be any private sales around. Based on that trade sale and the PX value you've found I'd say a private sale around the 8-8.5k mark.

Yep, that's the one I used to get the £7k trade in

Sorry - just re-read your post and you did say that!

Yep, that's the closest I've seen, though it's a full 12 months older. I think you are right in your guesstimate.

Have a look on autotrader and see what they're going for at the dealers and knock a bit off that or watch a few similar cars on Ebay to see what they go for.

Anything I've found so far has been at least a year different or had widely varying mileage so it's hard to judge, and I don't want to sit around watching listings for weeks before setting a price for it - it's a works car that we need to sell.

Private i would say 8k there isnt a market for these cars the now certainly not petrol.

Rubbish.

I'd have it if I had the money :(

Rubbish.

Have to say I sold my car back to the dealer and got just above the valuation price. People just dont seem to want to buy a thirsty petrol car anymore.

I got £5800 trade in for my 56 plate petrol vrs in May so you should achieve over 7k for it, as for there not being a market well I'd say that as long as you price it realistically then you should get a good price for it. People are starting to switch back to petrol, especially those who don't do mega mileage as they've realised that diesels aren't quite the money savers that they are marketed as. Plus a petrol vrs is far better to drive than a diesel one - but that is a whole different debate.

Good luck with the sale.

Grizzle - just because I have a different opinion to your is no reason to sling insults.

Example: cheapest FL 59 plate petrol vrs on autotrader today is up at 11993. Say that guy bought the car on either drive the deal or got the discounts that just about every dealer was offering at around that time he'd have paid somewhere around 16k new, so that would represent a depreciation of somewhere around 25%. Does that mean there "isn't a market for these cars" as you said? Nope, don't think so.

There is a market for the petrol vrs,the current prices make them alot of car for the money,Id hardly call a petrol vrs thirsty, for a 200bhp 2.0 turbo they offer very good mpg,try running a scooby or evo........they are thirsty.I easliy get 36mpg out of mine & it isnt driven with economy in mind, I got 42mpg on a run the other day,i think thats very good for a 2.0t.

two points

1) Dealers are giving carp p/x value regardless of what car you have. Some even take the p*ss. They are there to make money end off. Best way to value a car is to look at whats on the market and price as you think best.

2) £7k ouch! Mine comes in at £11600 for a diesel combi vRS

Just to give you some ideas, I bought a 59 (Jan 2010) car back in may as a private sale. Options inc DSG, met paint, maxidot, mfsw

Condition is excellent and full service history with 41k miles. I paid £9900

My guess is that 5 months on, and your car being slightly lower spec (£2000 in options) then £8000 to £8500

I can also reinforce that with the deal I got for my e90 BMW just before I bought the octy. 2007 car and traders wouldn't give me anything over £7k, but I sold it privately in 2 weeks for £8500. If you are being offered 7 at trade then £8-8.5 private is about right.

Thanks Hof.

I suspect it will get advertised around £9k with a view to getting £8.5k for it.

It seems Dr. Z has his answer.
