FMIC, decat and EGR delete

Featured Replies

Guys,

Sorry for the excessive questions I'm likely going to get a generic 165BHP remap, but i believe a FMIC is only necessary if on slow winding roads and booting it all the time and dropping a gear?. So is it not worth getting one for motorway/A roads with an occasional boot, if needed what is a resonably priced FMIC? - i read a ibiza Cupra TDI or any other good ebay ones (dont mind buying bits to do it myself).

Also i guess all a decat does it help the turbo spool quicker and change the noise or does it add power?

And an EGR delete is that just for preventative maintenace as they tend to fail or does it bring any benefit i guess not performance related.

If i had a generic remap would it not be ideal if i just run a decat or FMIC or both or would it be fine?

Just looking to make the most out of the car without spending **** loads of money, upgrading the turbo or actually blowing the clutch and turbo (so limit to 280/290 lb ft).

Thanks

You can get away with a generic map without getting an FMIC and it will still run reliably. Just make sure you go to a reputable tuner so it isn't too spiky to preserve the clutch

If you decide to get an FMIC, there are a couple out there. The Seat Sport one is a popular choice which will set you back over £400 with the forge pipework. You can get a forge intercooler kit, but at over £600, it is very pricey.

There is an ebay special which a few members got in a group buy for £200, with some fairly good reviews. The pipe work was a bit of a bodge though so wasn't a straight forward swap.

You won't get any performance gains from an EGR delete, but will help keep all the internals clean

SMIC should be fine on just a remap? if you want to go FMIC then a THS cooler with Darkside pipework seems a good way to go

Super thanks guys, what about a decat? - whats the score with them when remapped?

You shoul get the decat first so it can be taken into account when you get it mapped. The de cat will help the turbo spool quicker

Will It pass MoT without a cat?

Yes, you don't need a CAT on a diesel car :) It only has to pass the smoke test

Oh really now :) would I benefit from a decat & downpipe with the standard centre & rear. Then get a remap?
