What do you think about remoulded tires?Only for winter ,slow speeds,max 80 mph

The budged is tight,and I found some remoulded tires for good price.

Tyres are what keep you (hopefully) on the road, therefore I think are worth a reasonable investment.... However each to their own, but I would rather not have remoulds on my car. I use Ultragrip 8's in the winter on my car.

If budget that tight, what about 2nd hand winter tyres from Germany ?

iirc they have a 4-5mm min treat depth in Germany for winters, so you've got a winters use before they get to the wear indicators

Found good second hand ones with 6 mm tread and even 7 mm ,but I thought the remoulded are a better option

I think 4 mm for winter (snow) is insufficient,for me doesn't worth the time and money

For winters and snow in particular you really need a good tread depth IMO.

That said, I wouldn't be happy with remould either. You never know just how hard a life those tyre walls have had, and they are every bit as important a consideration as the tread and compound.

I got brand new nankang sv 2 i selling. They seem a good tyre

I just got the cheapest tyre pos for the fabia which seem pritty good too. Even in the hight of summer they were not that bad just noisy. Hope to try them in the snow this winter tho.

Wouldnt get remoulds myself but then i do lots of miles and for the price ide rather get budgets. As not too much difference

It really depends on the manufacturer of the remoulds, you would be surprised at the amount of commercial vehicles on the road that are on remoulded tyres.

Iirc all lorries use them but busses cant.

Even the manufacturers remould their own tyres.

We get a new tyre and run till its down near 2mm ish then get them re cut which deepens the treads buy 5-7mm ide say then run it again. Then the tyre goes away to place like bandvulc who thene fully remould the casing provided there has never been a puncture. All tyres are srl numbered too so you know what its had done.

Then the remoulded tyre goes back on a lorry and run again till its worn fully then gets a recut again. Once the tyre is then worn down from that it goes in the bin.

Lots of use from it as they are very expensive.

Cars are not the same tho. I do find tho that the remould tyres are softer than new so for a car if same would be false eco?

You're right,many comercial vehicles,very heavy are on remoulds.

My ex-teacher has remoulded winter tires on his old Merc,he is very happy,the downside is the different weight of the tires.I drove that car,that old Merc has a really good grip on snow,and is RWD and no traction control

It always makes me laugh that in the UK, most people with RWD vehicles fail to control their cars in the snow (BMW and Mercedes in particular).

I used to have a LOT of fun in my old MkIII Capri in the snow, and found it a LOT easier to drive than FWD vehicles, but I guess being mechanically minded helps, and actually understanding how to drive such vehicles. The UK almost grinds to a halt in heavy snow as most people don't seem to have ANY idea how to react.

A remoulded tyre is only as good as the casing it's remoulded to.

Many, many years ago in my early twenties I worked for Kenning Tyre Services for about 5 or 6 years. RQ's were all the rage (Remould Quality)

They were actually new tyres but had cosmetic defects, noting wrong with them safety wise but the sidewall/tread may have had a blemish on it

Don't know if you can get them nowadays, they were new tyres at remould prices

This is very true. Most people don't think about letting air out of the tyres when it's snowy. Of course in really low profile wide tyre you're screwed no matter what you do.

I think the Capri had 6 1/2" wide 13" Alloys, but I can't recall the tyre size for the life of me...Probably about a 70 profile. ;)

My first snow tyres on my Golf GTI Mk2 were Colway remoulds. They had a very agressive tread pattern and made the car sound like an old army truck coming down the road. Having said that, they were fantastic in the snow and on mud when following the RAC rally aound.

I think that so long as the remoulder has a decent reputation, as Colway used to do, they should be ok.

After some reseach on the internet,I'll buy these...35 pounds each 205 55 R16,I'm taking the risk

They are 100% remoulded

I changed my mind in the last minute and I bought these

They are made in Germany,and they have a TUV quality certification...for me in good enough...and not the last, 9 mm profile.

The fuuny side is the design tread is identic with the Continental TS 810 :giggle: ,this one

A lot of cheapo (chinese/imports) tyres will clone the tread pattern of other more expensive tyre manufacturers - however they generally have a much heavier rubber compound.

Your new selection of tyre looks like it will be a little less aggressive/grippy in the snow, but still loads better than a summer tyre!

Anyway....for me is the best option for the price,some will not accept there're good alternatives to expensive tires,but I don't care.

I was commenting about the tread pattern "design" primarily. Obviously I would expect any winter tyre to have a softer compound otherwise they would not be overly useful.

I am sure they will work well - and you have done what others failed to do last year - get the tyres before the rush.

I have just bought some 16" Avon Ice Touring winter tyres for SWMBO's TT. Paid £60 each from MyTyres, which I don't think is a bad price for a new winter tyre.
