Newbie - Boost pipe popped off :(

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i thought i would clean the insides of the EGR pipes, intercooler and actually clean the intercooler i removed a pipe and the clip and put it back on.

I had my car remapped and all was fine, i have put my foot down plenty of times then later on through the day, i was booting it and all of a sudden a pop, i thought oh ****! - the car ran like ****.

I thought it sounded like a pop, and checked the pipe that attaches to the IC at the bottom right it had popped off, i don't know if the retaining clips has fell off and to re-use it?

Can you get up-rated ones or buy any from halfords etc, what size are they?

Would do folk suggest?

Thanks

The clips are from vag garages or tps only I believe. If it happened after you'd taken the pipes apart it's quite likely that one wasn't seated well after you put it back.

Take a look at the little alloy lugs and see what condition they're in!

Thanks mate, is the correct sort of alignment they fit to?

The little loop bit of them that sticks out I'm sure it was in the right place.

Cheers

Standard replacement bottom pipe from TPS / Skoda is about £80 - had to do mine a while ago, but been fine since.

Best trick I was shown by mechanic, is to have the retaining clips in place & clipped in before reattaching the pipe. This way you can hear a decent 'Click' when pushing the pipe home. If it doesn't click twice, something is not right.

cheers

If you dont want to spend money at the moment, use a jubilee clip and 3 self tapping screws, held mine fine for 1000miles or so!

I have put the clip back on it appears the ends were not inline with the guides for the prongs, will probably do it again lol
