Surely a tuning box couldn't produce anywhere near that sort of power/torque increase? I would have expected i'd be sending the unit back because of no difference in performance, not the opposite! The change was incredible. Clutch is pretty new with 5k miles on it.

  • the tuning box i had before my jabba remap was r/r at 336lbft and 174bhp but again it was smoking like a ****, jabba remap 312lbft 174bhp no smoke and a extra 150 miles a tank

  • Shark! One of my mates has an Awesome remap and mine is much smoother and smokes ALOT less!

  • Plumes of smoke on a stage 1 map I'd call unnecessary.

Why not its the same principle as a remap. However unlike a remap you can't control the turbo maps. So the extra fuel your injecting increase exhaust gas temperature which in return creates more boost over requested.

Some remaps I've seen are no better than a tuning box.

I have had a couple of Unit 18 maps. First was on the car when everything was standard, around 170bhp, really smooth, so easy to drive, power all round the rev range, small amount of extra smoke, but not much and only when flat out. Now running another Unit 18 map on my hybrid, cant say a bad word about it, same as before, smooth etc. 100% spot on.

I'll be Sharking my S3 when I get my hands on it. Stage 1 map - 310bhp approx on one of those. Just haven't heard a bad word about them.

May well go with Angel, but the new garage is about 7 miles down the road. Nigel was reason I got my vRS. I believe the standard map offered is slightly less bananas than the Polo has.

Still has some concern about doing this to a 136k mile car :S

136 is just run in! As long as you have a good condition turbo you shouldn't have any problems.

Angel has 3 maps available - economy, street & the big daddy.

Economy - 160bhp - 275 lb/ft

Street - 165bhp - 300 lb/ft

The big daddy is what I went with - whatever the car will make, but the advise against this one unless your clutch is perfect or you have upgraded. Which I had (Jabbasport smf)

I've had a performance torque map on my standard vrs, did the job, nice gains but smoked a bit, then when I put a hybrid turbo (Ali @ unit 18) I used there map and it was mighty impressive, it ran 191 bhp and 298lbs which was spot on,

No smoke, ran perfect until I sold the car, If I compare my fabia to my current car, scirrocco gt tdi 170 dsg then the Vw feels slow and flat comaprison

Get a unit 18 map with upgrades, money well spent

I've got myself an Awesome map, more than happy with it, very little smoke unless really giving it some abuse. Mine made 182bhp and 277lbs ft of Torque, pulls nicely from 2000rpm. Even the RR guy who has been tuning for year's was impressed with the nice smooth curve produced.

EDIT: Just checked my dyno run, it made 277lbs ft or torque not 273lbs ft as I previously put

Whats times did you run at pod with 180bhp+

15.9 was my best, slowest was a 16.4, only did the 4 run's due to weather/price at a show there and it was my first ever time up the strip.

Think I remember the times now you mention them on a old thread! Full interior etc too didnt ya? Its a good bhp figure in fairness

i was running 14.4 on just a re map at york, tho my torque was about 100 ft lbs higher than yours

I have a shark map at the moment... Now I have gone Hybrid... I can't decide who to take it to.... Jabba or Shark!

Cheers for all the input guys. I think i'm going to hang fire for a bit and not jump to any decisions at the moment, though i'm still going to get a Jabbasport RARB fitted in readiness for whichever map i decide.

Any helpful members on here willing to help me out with the fitting would be very much appreciated as changing a bulb is pushing my mechanical skills. :D

p.s. Lets keep this thread going as hopefully it will help other members in my situation. :)

Reduced the tuning box setting and fitted back onto the car, not quite as brutal now but still producing immense torque! It'll do until I can spare the cash for a re map.

yeah thats correct you commented on my project page. full leather interior with a heavy sub box too

14.4 on a stage 1 map is a epic good time for a PD130. Well done :)

I've been offered a job and will be starting in just over a week. I've already promised myself the reward of a remap :D so in a few weeks hopefully I'll be rolling with the bigger boys :p

After reading Afew posts on this thread in thinking I was a bit hasty in just going for a generic revo remap....... Anyone got any views on them? I had it done at got boost tuning in Bridgend and the rollers said it was 152.3 bhp after the map, but it said that it was 138bhp standard :/

A mate of mine had one put on his golf gt, mk5. His turbo blew a couple of months ago, not sure if was due to the remap or not mind.

Sounds like you got a ripped off a bit.

Does a re map increase the boost pressure produced by the turbo? If your turbo is weak it won't last long.
