Insurance Tips!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I just thought I would let you all know about how I have managed to get cheaper insurance today by bartering with two specialist companies! The insurance company I'm with this year is called Brentacre Insurance, and on my renewal the said it would be a Whopping £1176!!! (I do have 2 write off - one my fault, one not my fault and I'm 22 living in Birmingham + my girlfriend is on the policy to also aged 22)

Due to this i started shopping around. Adrian Flux was by far the cheapest with £895 as their cheapest quote, beating the nearest comparison site at £919. After speak to Brentacre they reduced it to £900, Adrian Flux retaliated with a £850 quote and £50 less excess. Again Brentacre matched this and as a result I was sold!

I highly recommend Brentacre as they are helpful and cheap! Please remember to no accept the first pressure quote from Adrian Flux as I'm sure you can go to a specialist like Brentacre and get it just as cheap!

Oh and I forgot to mention...Brentacre is a modified specialist too!!!

Have a good next quote all!

Another tip - one I've nagged a lot of posters about. Have you got an ancient Aunt ( or uncle), or any aged relative .( Aunts are better ,as insurance companies prefer them ). And have they a clean driving licence. Stacks of driving experience ,and possibly some NCB with some company .

Add them to your policy. Last year ,my daughter renewed her policy ,and she also got married. Honeymoon was in some foreign place, but airport charges were horrendous, so the "ADD DAD " factor came into play( dad takes car home after they go to airport). Now she's a happy bunny - dad is worth big bucks to her -almost £200 reduction in premium. So dig them up, dust down the paper licences and add them to the policy. That's one mod the insurance companies like . ( And the old dodders (like me) never need to know what NO2 injection is -except to shut up mum in law)

I work in insurance and this is maybe still classed as Fronting the insurance to bring the price down. I'd be careful with that one!

What mates rates do you get?

  • I just insured my new car of £287

Maybe you could run me a quote? Mines up for renewal in a few months.

I rung brentacre earlier and they quoted me 2k :(

What I found odd was putting people my age on with provisional licenses actually reduced the quote on my first car. I left them on and have been teaching one of them, the other has never actually driven, but maybe one day :p

I also put my mum on to bring the price down (Dad has points) and mum came in useful picking me up in in two or three times now

Got my 53 Fabia VRS renewed today:

£233 Fully Comp.

15 No Claims Discount

Protected NCD

Legal Cover

£0 Voluntary Excess

£100 Excess

37 Years old

Also got two claims, one from 2009 (not my fault but bad crash) and one from 2010 (my fault, only minor crash)

Got it with Chaucer. Very happy bunny!!

I just renewed the Vrs last month :-

33 years old

10k mile limit

All mods declared fully comp

With salvage retention

£586

Christ - I pay £700 for mine but then again I'm classed as a CAT E risk area thanks to the Oldham postcode. What area codes are you chaps in?

oh and I have 11yrs NCB with no claims on record. :(

I thought mine was bad, £1000 for a Fabia PD100 with mods declared, 5yrs NCB with my Dad as a named driver (BB postcode)

Just renewed mine with Hastings Direct - £319 fully comp, use of other cars, courtesy car and windscreen cover etc. 7 years ncb, 15k mileage per year.

I`d love to know how often someone must use a car if they are named on a policy? Bit worrying tbh, I have my Mrs and dad on my policy, Mrs drives is once every now and then, Dad uses it very rarely when we swap motors (he has a big jeep).

I was £407 with Brentacre when I had my vRS.

Also used them with my BMW, but when it came to renewal time, the only knocked off £50, which was still £250 dearer than my cheapest quote.

They did say they would price match if I emailed them over the details of the cheaper quote etc, but I left it a bit late, as the insurance ran out that day, and I was away from home etc...

I work in insurance and this is maybe still classed as Fronting the insurance to bring the price down. I'd be careful with that one!

+1

I'm wondering if insurance quotes for these will be on the up as they get cheaper and into the hands of younger people (I'm only 21, so not being negatively stereotypical here!) and get crashed/claimed on more.

I hope not, but might explain some of the high sounding quotes people have.

Fronting can now end up with you getting a £1200 fine and your car confiscated & crushed.

Zurich was cheapest for me: £388 fully comp, 6k miles a year, 23 years old, 6 years no claims. Very happy with them so far.

  • 4 weeks later...

It's just cost me an extra £268.18 to declare my latest mods and to change address from RH2 to RH1, so my insurance has gone from about £59.85 per month to £104.58!! Think i'll move back to Reigate and take my mods off!! :o

32 years old, no claims in 8 years (had to claim in 2004 thanks to an uninsured driver), driving since 1998 and had my only 3 points so far (hopefully ever) in January 2011.

Is the fact these cars are cheaper to buy now and a target for the younger driver the reason the insurance is going up in price???

Maybe your current company isn't very competitive with modifications and the area you now live in?

Very likely, which i a shame after sticking with them for the last 8 years but i'll definitely shop around in April when it's due for renewal.

I was surprised at the difference between the normal companies and the more "specialist" companies.

Apart from Adrian Flux and Brentacre, who else is out there that you would recommend??
