Hate SUV's!!

Featured Replies

I found a good site if like me you hate these space wasting, fuel guzzling, leathal pointless machines!!!!!

http://www.ihateyoursuv.com/ I saw the your suv suxs and had to have it!!! should be interesting wearing that around the place :P !

Also printed some good flyer type things to put on offending vehicles! they were from this site....

http://www.idontcareaboutair.com/bumpers/create.shtml

Just a quick one we swapped my wifes saab for a rav4 the saab was averaging 22mpg the rav does 31mpg ??

i dont have a suv but i know what i'd do if some loud mouth was putting offensive material on my car  If you seriously consider putting anything onsomeone elses property consider the implications carefully beforehand

yo may not like them but provided they are legal and not driven in a offensive way (which of course excludes X5's)then whats your problem. There is enough hatred in this pathetic country without this sort of thing.Next you'll be trying to stir up hatred against my vRS for some reason or maybe starting a campaign against all diesels 'cos of the soot!

I like SUV's I must say.Especially the big VW Touareg.See a few around now and they look the bees knees (especially with some sort of spoiler thing stuck on the roof!)

Been looking at (not too seriously) various ones.Even the Kia ,Nissan and Hyundai ones.Interested by the thought of the Yeti too(second car of course)

Afraid it's people carriers that I am not keen on.Since Jane has been pregnant people keep saying " you will need a people carrier". Made me feel like life was pointless and I couldn't go on if I had to drive a mini bus ;):D

At the end of the day I can't see anything roomier about either of them. Both seem to consist simply of numerous seats that (with PC's) you can put up,down, sideways, backwards etc.(wow)and a boot big enough for three packs of polos.

Reckon my octavia is far more practical and spacious

I also hate SUV's. I'm not saying some people don't have a real use for them but I wish those who don't didn't buy them.

Octavia Estate 1.9 TD - 0-60 11.8, mpg 43-63, price

A jolly good point, I'll remember that when I'm trying to drive across a muddy field, or up a 1:3 gravel track
Nobody is saying that if you drive up 1 in 3 tracks and on muddy fields you shouldn't have one. I thought that was obvious - in fact I said it specifically in my first sentence.

I live in Essex, there are no 1:3 hills,(Slight exaggeration :D) there are shiney 4x4's everywhere, do you really think they are all required for off-road use?

Nah, but I could really do with one. Looking at getting one for w/e use.

But it is about freedom of choice - do you really "need" the car you have?

I take it you didnt see 5th gear wear a shogun totally destroyed a honda. I mean it flattened it side on with out even a small dent on the front of the shogun. The dummies were in bits inside the honda. All this was due to the high (strogest point) chassis os the 4x4 ploughing through the soft bit of the car. If it is car or car the strongest points meet up and help even out the impact.

Im sure you would change your mind if you saw this.

And yes I do walk and cycle also and these vehicles are also far more dangerous than standard cars. Hence new laws being brought in for 4x4s and cars!

Based on that comment I assume you either walk or cycle everywhere as, compared to those two modes of transport all mechanical forms of transport fall into that category. Or are you a hypocrit?
I walk everywhere within walking distance, I cycle everywhere within reasonable cycling distance. But when you need a car to get somewhere on the road (ie not off-road) why use a more expensive less economical car for the sake of it?

amazing coincidence, watch itv now...

edit, too late, wasn't really what I thought it was going to be anyway:)

Lets ban HGVs

Ever seen the mess one of them makes when it hits an SUV, car, biker, pedestrian? And the amount of fuel they use :wow: and there are more of them than there are SUVs

*sorry I'm feeling argumentative today :D

I saw 5th gear - if I had children I'd be in an SUV now - just for their safety, and if some leftie started sticking crap all over it I'd break their legs.

But they also showed 2 Mondeos hitting each other, one fully loaded (and therfore 2" lower) and the other with just a driver and the result was just as terminal. If any car hit the side of you at 60mph, you would be lucky end up alive, let alone in hospital. Cars are designed to pass the crash tests at 30mph, not 60 so it would not really matter at the end of the day, you would still be dead. Also the cars were of a much older design and crash technology has improved a lot ib the paast few years.

it's not just 4x4s that have tis problem. it woyld be similar for a Passat to hit a lupo for example.

Obviously HGV's have a purpose. That's completely irrelevant and you know it :)

So we should all get SUV's because some people already have them and they are dangerous to proper cars when they hit them? Right.

Yep! We will all have to get bigger and bigger cars to protect ourselves from other peoples 4x4s etc.

Sod the little cars I hit as long as im safe.

As Jon said - it's all about freedom of choice! ;) Why spend 12k on a "sporty" Fabia when a Classic trim one does the job just as well and for almost half the price!

Chris (ex-4x4 owner!)

Why are you lot being so argumentative today!!

Why not look at it from the SUV point of view? They have a purpose too! Nice high safe driving position - all being ruined by little car drivers who are worried about getting hit by one!

Like Jon said - i'd be much more worried about being hit by an HGV than an SUV. We all know HGV drivers watch tv, read the paper, have a snooze while they are driving but how much campaigning do you do about them? Think about all the trees that are dying from their dirty deisel exhausts!

And for Gods sake - somebody think of the children!!!

(ok a little over the top maybe! )

Well HGV's don't run over kids do they because they don't do the school run :D

The bullbars and high fronts (ie lack of pedestrian safety) for me are what really does it. Exactly Dave - somebody think of the children. :)

Well HGV's don't run over kids do they because they don't do the school run :D

Nope, but the buses do ;)

Chris

What about JCBs and industrial earth movers?

As for the kids, I blame the parents ;) The pavement is the narrower tarmac bit, usually slightly raised from wider tarmac bit. Cars use the wider bit, people use the narrower bit. Not exactly rocket science is it

It's called natural selection by Darwin :D

Oh and before anyone goes off on one over that last bit, yes I have lost 2 relatives to errant drivers. :(

I have had three elderly residents taken out by fire engines on the same stretch of road.I shouldn't smile but it does make me. Not all together but different incidents.

You'd think the fire brigade and my slower relatives would have learnt unless the boys in the big red machine have a contract out on us  (was bout 20 yrs ago I must add )

if anyones worried about airpollution and emissions they would be far beeter turning their wrath against the aviation industry compared with the pollution thats pumps ou, we could all have the dirtiest possible suv and still only create an insignificant amount of additional pollution. - ie why worry about a fart when your drowning in a sea of ****?

Yes , some "drivers " are a menace in suv's but the same driver would also be a menace to a mini - its the drivers that need educating not he vehicles .

Well I have to say i'm very bias towards SUV's working for Land Rover.

I think it is ridiculous to have them in cities, but on the whole they're great things.

Land Rover is doing well this year with Discovery, Range Rover Sport and New Range Rover and is an English car manufacturer we can be proud of!!! Plus it employs at least 6-8000 people in Gaydon design and development centre and towards 10,000 in Solihul manufacturing plant.

Ban SUV's and cut all these jobs? Me thinks not...

Sorry rant over!

I think it is ridiculous to have them in cities

Personally i don't think it's really any more ridiculous than having a Ferari capable of doing 170mph in a city

Ban SUV's and cut all these jobs? Me thinks not...

:iagree:

but it's not just about the jobs for me - it's about the choice
