New SE Connect Faulty ECU before collection

Featured Replies

Was going to collect my shiny new Octavia SE Connect (my first Skoda) on Saturday only to be told on Friday evening that it wouldn't come out of "transport" mode properly. Furthermore, my dealers computer didn't have the right version of the software to be able to update it. They put it on a low loader to the other local dealership in the same group.

Today I found out that the ECU is faulty and they've had to order a new one. Will be another day or two. Not happy.

Anyway, having got that off my chest, is there anything I should be worried about regarding whether I've got a "Friday afternoon" car?

Dont worry at all, electronics are sometimes DOA. better discovered now than just after collection.

Better that a part fails straight out of the box rather than along the motorway.

These things happen, you've been unlucky.

At least it will only be another few days to get you a new car. Had it been a factory order then it might have been months!

Order a new ECU, not car!

Thanks both. :)

Oh, that makes much more sense!

The ECU is the cars brain, which on the Octavia controls a lot more than you might think.

When you collect the car take your time checking out all the functions to ensure everything works as it should.

Will do, sounds sensible. Thanks.

Picked up the car today, unfortunately was rushed as I was late getting there and didn't have a huge amount of time to check it over.

Anyway, first impressions are good, but there seems to be a couple of faults which I'm not happy about.

Airbag warning light is stuck on.

Interior front courtesy light doesn't seem to come on with door opening. I've checked that the switch is in the right place. The rear light works ok.

Oh, and they aren't sure if the service interval was set to variable (as requested) after they fitted the new ecu.

They let you drive the car away with an airbag fault!?

Ring Skoda UK first thing in the morning - 08457 745745 (option 4) and complain.

I'm surprised they let you drive away with an airbag fault! As silver1011 says, contact Skoda UK pronto, and lodge a complaint.

What would be the purpose/benefit of complaining rather than just getting the dealer to sort it out?

Thanks

Hi

When did you order your se connect?

We ordered a steel grey estate August 21st (although the official launch date was 1st Sept we were on holiday first week in September). Called into dealers Sat 8th Sept to check all ok, our salesman was on holiday but informed they had got one with "our name on it" and delivery a couple of weeks. We rang the following Tuesday to speak directly with our salesman and wre then told not built yet and could not give us a build date. Bit annoyed about this as at first it sounded like they were making it up as they went along.

Anyway after reading comments on here decided to ring Skoda Uk direct and they have been very helpful. They told us the build date and we have rang them a few times for updates. It arrived in Grimsby Tuesday 2nd Oct and Skoda UK say it could take up to two weeks before we get it. No phone calls from dealer to update us - given they also knew we were a bit put out about the mix up in information originally given - just a courtesy call would have been appreciated (of cause they did manage to ring twice after we went home to decide whether to buy a new car before ordering it the next day!).

It's the first brand new car we've bought so never had to wait before and obviously you do get excited about it. It's all in days work for the dealership of cause. But hopefully it will be here soon.

Cheers

Dave

Ordered on 27th Aug.

It's not just a case of the dealer letting the OP drive away with the airbag light on. What on earth is the OP thinking of, accepting delivery of a brand new vehicle with the said light lit up??? Unbelievable. That car should never have been driven off the forecourt, and the fact that it was may just go against things when/if he contacts Skoda UK.

Yeah, my fault.

i suspect its a simple coding issue thats easily sorted. maybe they have told the car it has more airbags than it does and this will trigger a fault.

Hopefully, yes. Taking it in tomorrow morning.

I had the airbag light on when i picked up my SE Connect last week, Hadn't been turned on inside the glove box. The cars dont need to be built as they are all ready to go, just need transporting from Factory. That is why no options can be added, unless they are a Dealer fitted part.
