Diesel Particle Filter (DPF) failure

Featured Replies

Sell it and get yourself a TSI. Ours does an average of 37mpg in varied conditions and with two different drivers. Smooth, quiet, fast and cheaper to buy than the CR/PD. Simples!

but are you really sure they have got the carbon build up problem sorted out yet?

I really would like to be convinced they have, as returning to petrol is now the only way I see of dodging the dreaded DPF in my next car. - Thinking ahead as this is still quite a few years away.

Yep, I had pressure sensor failure too. ECU logs indicated that DPF had been run correctly and soot content was low. Reset and re-occurred twice and so a replacement cost me £48

This happened 2 weeks out of 3 year warranty.

My sensor was apparantly playing up long before it brought on the EML (Engine Management Light).

The old faulty sensors have 'MADE IN US' written on them. The later improved sensor has 'Made in Malaysia' instead.

Did you notice any economy difference between the old and new sensor being fitted?

No, my average MPG has been 48mpg in the 12 months/ 25,000 miles I've owned the car.

I thought I'd update you with the outcome. I picked up the car on Thursday. Was told that the error codes have disappeared following the regeneration process (it took them six attempts and I believed them as more than 1/2 tank of diesel was gone) and the sensor replaced just in case. They have no idea why this happened. I was originally quoted 415 euros for the repair but when I got at the dealership, the salesman that sold me the car was passing by and asked me what I was doing there. i explained and he asked the service-person to give me a discount. I ended up paying 100 Euro for this repair and 300 for a long time service (annual). I was happ with this and this reinforced my view that not all dealers are only after the money. Hopefully this has resolved issues

Optimum regeneration occurs at approx 2,200 rpm just for a random fact.

Engine speed is more critical on the PDs as the camshaft can't be spinning to fast or it doesn't have time for post combustion injection. CRs are much more flexible in regeneration. Speed isn't important, engine revs are more so

At least its sorted now, next time it needs a service though shop around a bit, €300 is a bit steep, im fairly sure pilsen in ballymount would be cheaper, and an indy be cheaper again

€300 :whew:

What did you get done for that cost?
