Annoying info

Featured Replies

Does anyone else get a bit cheesed off with being told when to change gear? I like to be reminded which gear I am in but the extra info is distracting. Can this be turned off?

It's not like it shouts at you to change gear, don't keep looking at the display, look at the road ahead.

Gosh! I never thought of looking at the road, I will try that!

Deputy, my wife only gets in the yeti on the strict condition that she sits still and and keeps totally silent. I will not put up with any nonsense!

Is it just me or are newer Yeti owners getting a little more 'nit picky', some of the 'annoying' features brought up recently I must admit I hadn't even noticed or felt worthy of mention! Probably just me, I just get into the car, sit there, point it in the right direction (most times) and soak in the great driving experience

My advice...don't give the engine as many revs...or buy a DSG and avoid the light altogether

With the cars getting such good reviews I guess it's that new buyers are expecting 100% perfection. Whilst most peeps will expect the odd minor problem and have it sorted at service time.

I find it on the edge of annoying but not enough to bother me-I certainly notice it less than I did and I hope the same applies to the OP. I'd be happier with mine if the door pockets were soft lined so things didn't rattle. I still enjoy mine every time I drive it and at 15k miles it is still as good -and maybe better than I first thought.

Ok seeing as I am being accused of being picky there is another thing I will get off my chest. The adjustable wing mirrors. Why does the left one adjust at the same time as the right one. It means that you then have to go back and readjust the left one when it was perfectly ok in the first place. The dealer said this was deliberate but got lost trying to explain why.

Oh and by the way I have had the Yeti the best part of 3 years and am awaiting delivery next month of a new one. So picky I might be but I obviously have some love for the beast!

Hi AreWeThereYet,

I ought to introduce you to my wife - her nick name is "Darth Vader". She does not put up with any nonsense either! So I bought a DSG!

The wing mirror adjustment can be changed via the MFD/Maxidot via convenience.

The Hood. -- thanks for that. Excuse my ignorance but is there a way of finding out all the adjustments that can made by maxidot? Also as someone who really does not know what maxidot is is it something you get the dealer to adjust? Perhaps there is maxidot forum on here. I will have a look. Sorry if I am wasting your time.

The maxidot is the name of the display between the instruments. The menu for accessing it on a car with steering wheel controls is on the right side telephone symbol for phone options and the funny hook arrow for going back a step. The thumb wheel pressed selects a function, rotated scrolls through options. The only problem then is learning the language/jargon it offers. If you don't have the multi function wheel I suspect it is done via the stalk controls-someone will be along in a minute who does know! I think the mirror adjustment is good. Get the left correct then the right correct thereafter adjust both for load or seat height/eyeline variation.

Why does the left one adjust at the same time as the right one?

This is standard on most VW group cars. I think the idea is that if someone shorter or taller gets in the car, by adjusting the right mirror, the left will be moved to approximately the right position. It does almost work if you remember to adjust the right mirror first.

Zib. Yes I can see that that would work with a normal wife. But my one has a very strange setting for the left hand mirror which we have agreed not to discuss. I have no idea what she can see in it but she can't half reverse using them. I have to turn round and look out the back window.

Thank you all for your help. A very friendly bunch are yeti owners!

I think Devonutopia can sort something out for you. I'm sure I've seen something about lining of pockets

No, and no. I'm sure you'll get used to it, and then become as unaware of it most of the time as everyone else.

Back to the original question, and the emotion behind it - this has come up in the past, as well as the automatic wipers, and the automatic lights and other such stuff which has the capacity to intrigue/irritate/amuse/annoy/inform/distract/assist according to the individual's take on his/her's driving concept. Some like total control over their vehicle and resent the intrusion of automation, while others appreciate the removal of hassle.

I think that coming into a car as well developed as the Yeti some of the Fx can be a real surprise and exceed expectation, and as such can undoubtedly irritate - until one becomes accustomed. And in the case of the OP, that's 3years - with another dose on the way!!

And as others have found out, it is possible to tweak things to accommodate individuality either via maxidot or by a computer link.

Personally I feel that these facilities underline what phenomenal value the Yeti represents for us owners.

I am 48000 miles and 2years 6months into my ownership, and I find that all the auto bits are a boon. The gear change jobbie I find invaluable because, with the engine so quiet, I can forget to change up sometimes! (Or is that an age thing!!).

I'm with you on the mirrors though, and altered that setting thru the maxi.

After the first day I stopped noticing the gear change indicator. It served no purpose for me.

It's only now reading this that I remember my Yeti has one.

Do you not know that it is rude to SHOUT? I am not at all impressed with your comment. As you are one of the main contributors to this forum I would have expected some more courtesy and tolerance. I assume you meant it to be clever and humorous, well just in case there is any misunderstanding let me assure that I believe you missed the mark on both counts. I was obviously premature in praising the helpful nature of the contributors to this forum. Sad.

Sorry, but yes it was meant humourously, and that is why the

However, as we have often found here, many people do not read their Handbook, and yes I do know it is supposedly a "man" thing not to do so, but it is a surprisingly thorough read and does contain lots of useful instructions and information.

Peace and love!
