Lights on warning, strange problem.

Featured Replies

It only 'doesn't' sound on headlights. If I set the indicator and take the key out, open door it obviously puts that sides sidelight on and the warning bong starts. If I set sidelights on,key out and get out, warning starts. Get out with headlights on though and zilch. This likely to be a problem in the light switch itself. If it is I take it that part is detachable/replaceable and please god don't tell me it would need to be coded to the bloody car as well.

Do you have coming home lights? I read in the manual that you have to leave the headlights on auto or dipped beam when getting out for them to work.

Thats how it is meant to work, it bongs with the indicator set as a warning that the parking lights are enabled as a reminder. If you look closely you'll see that the front and rear lights are on, on a single vehicle side only. The only other time it will bong is if the headlights are on the number 2 setting. My MK2 Octavia and Superb2 both worked this way, as does my current Audi.

So it's set up that if you have the dipped headlights on on a rainy day, get out and forget to turn the lights off it isn't going to warn you. However if you just have them set to sidelights,it will remind you. That don't sound right to me.

But with coming/leaving home lights if the switch is in the headlight position and you leave the car you don't need an audible reminder as the headlights automatically turn off after a short delay.

Mine do that too, I use the sidelights and foglights during reduced visibility in the daytime, i.e. raining. If I leave them on when I get home then I get the boing when I open the door. If I leave the headlights on then no boing but the lights do turn off after about 30 secs.

Yeh cheers for that, didn't realise about the coming home lights. Weird (after a not so modern car before, which would buzz away at you if you left them on) to be able to get out with the lights on, lock up and then the lights will still go out after the set time. Set the time to 10 seconds.

Any reason why? Ignoring for a second the fact that rain isn't sufficient reason for fog lights, that they give you no additional visability in daylight rain, and that they reflect off the wet road surface causing glare, I really can't understand why anyone would think "I need fog lights for visability but don't need headlights coz it's not that bad really".

Don't get me wrong - I'm not one if those who gets their knickers in a twist over (front) flog lights on unnecessarily - as long as they are OEM and not poorly adjusted. I just can't follow your reasoning. If you'd said it was because you preferred the look if have accepted that.......
