Wing Mirror Woes (Elegance)

Featured Replies

Bent my wing mirror back the wrong way when I reversed into something last week. The housing seems to lock in place most of the time but at other times it moves backwards and forwards but there is no real damage to the housing. Garage quoted £394 for the replacement electrical gubbins and fixtures so should I bite the bullet and pay this or could I get a non-electrical version instead at presumably a much lower cost?

Get one from a scrappy and rebuild it or replace direct ?

Check out Ebay....

LH Mirror 3T2857507BH9B9 ...£123.99 inc postage

RH Mirror 3T2857508BH9B9 ...£128.99 inc postage

.... The Skoda Parts Shop

Hope this helps

Just to get this cleared, is anything damaged? from the sounds of it the motor is working fine it's just moving the mirror to a "back" position when it should be open and remains open when it should be closed? is that right?

if that's the case it's just a matter of snapping it back. it could also be I've probably confused the matter cause they shouldnt be suggesting a replacement unless something is pretty damaged.

... it moves backwards and forwards ...

I'd say it's fine - you should be able to fold it in two positions. If you hit something it will go backwards, if you got hit it will go forward.

It flaps about forward and backward but then settles down after a minute or so and has a slight amount of vertical play in the housing. The electric glass adjustment still works so I'm thinking of wedging the housing in one place as a bit of a bodge. Thanks for the links.

Thought........ if you did the same thing to the other wing mirror, you could get them both flapping and fly.....big saving on fuel that!!!!
