The Aygo has just had a 2012 '' tweek '' has anybody driven / Owned an Aygo and can give an opinion on which is best for what a city car will be used for.

I've not driven an Aygo but they have been around for a while now so the Citigo will be better, newer technology and also having a brief look the Aygo looks dearer compared to the equivelent Citigo.

I know someone who had an Aygo and although I didn't sit in it I noticed it looked a bit cramped inside. Loads of room in the Citigo though front and back, decent boot too on a Citigo.

Its best for you to test drive both though and see which you prefer, we are all going to be biased on here !

Yes, i agree with that, a test drive is definitely the way to go!

My previous car was a Yaris and having owned Toyotas for ten years with not a single problem, I fully intended to buy an Aygo to replace my Yaris. Before I had looked at anything else I went to the Toyota showroom fully intending to have a test drive and do a deal. However all it took was for me to sit in the Aygo to know it wasn't the car for me. I found it cramped, the seats narrow and uncomfortable, and the interior a bit "tacky". I didn't even bother taking one for a test drive.

In contrast, the Citigo (or Up and Mii for that matter) has a spacious interior, comfy seats, and to me feels more robust and well built. It's also a dream to drive. It's obviously all down to personal preference, but in my opinion there really is no contest.

Completely different cars -the Citigo has nearly double the interior space of the Aygo, it feels like a much bigger car to drive and is far more refined. The Aygo is over ten years old though.

Toyota are also doing some very good finance deals at the moment -last time I checked they did PCP at 0%

Interesting, as the Aygo/C1/107 is the cheaper car that is better on fuel/tax.

But the build on the VW versions are alot better built. But simply are more expensive (by very little I would add)

So if you wanted the cheapest car on the market to buy and run, and are not bothered by badge or interior spec the C1/107 is the better car to go for. Add to that 2nd hand values are crazy cheap due to the sheer numbers on the road and it really is the better city car.

The mother in law has an Aygo Go.

Driven it a few times and have to say I'm not really very impressed.

The interior trim is very "cheap" feeling and looking. The controls for the heaters and A/C etc look awful. The sound deadening is very poor. The fit of the carpets inside is very badly done with loose flaps of carpet showing here there and everywhere. No rev counter. Gutless engine (I know it's no PD130 but still expected more). Boot space is laughable! Rear seat space is also laughable!

I could go on...

Even though her's is a decent spec with A/C, remote locking, electric windows, TomTom sat nav, bluetooth and alloys it just doesn't feel like a very well specced car as all the other points let it down.

Seriously... go for the Citigo!

If I had to buy a brand new city car I would go for the VW versions I have to admit.

But if I didnt, and I was wanting a city go full stop then sorry the cheaper Toyota version at 2-5k purchase price is better for the usage of a city car!

Perhaps I expected too much from it I don't know.

It's been a while since I owned a petrol car and that was a 4 cylinder 1.3 which had much more grunt from lower down without the need to thrash it to death.

I must admit it did go fairly well if I wrang it's neck... it was fun... but not pleasant. It is a revvy engine but a bizare experience as it keeps on revving and revving with no noticeable increase in power, just more revs!

TBH. I didn't want to spend too much time in it as it's got eye lashes on the headlights :wonder:

Very unscientifically I looked on Drive the Deal and put in the highest spec 5 door, automatic, metallic, ESP equipped ..... Citigo (which has ESP as standard) ....and Citroen C1 and the Citigo was about £700 dearer.

I also selected the very cheapest 3 door C1 and Citigo - both with no extras (the Citigo has ESP standard across the range and the Citroen has no ESP available on base models)...and the Skoda is almost £400 dearer.

The cheapest Citigo is £7190. (£654 dearer than the cheapest of the other trio and has ESP but doesn't have 5 year warranty of the Toyota)

The cheapest Peugeot is £6534 OTR

The cheapest Citroen is £6792 OTR

The cheapest Aygo is £7480

Don't know if the base Aygo has ESP but it does have a 5 year waranty and I have as much faith in Toyoyta as I do in Skoda. Not quite so sure about Citroen.

All prices on the road and delivered.

I think I'd go for the Citigo myself - on safety grounds alone.

My wife is on her second 107, they are brilliant cars but very cheaply made. Full of character and very reliable too. I considered one for myself but after trying a Citigo found its just so much better.... more space, better ride, more refined and better quailty.

However, my local Pug dealer is doing them at £6245 which is around £1400 less than the Skoda..... but I still bought the Skoda!

I still say the Pug has a bit more character, but the ride and lack of refinement are tiring on longer journeys.

I'm pretty much the most un-blinkered person on here, and I'd say the Citigo is a much superior car to the Aygo. It feels more of a quality product.

The gear stick looks very cheap and looks like something from an 80's Metro. No proper gaitor just a little boot at the bottom with the metal stick showing.

The boot button is very 90's. A big stick out metal button you press in to release the boot.

I was out in the wifes 107 today, its a base model and the latest ones do have a full gear lever gaiter also the suspension has been retuned to give a better ride. The 107 also has two vanity mirrors in the sun visors and a key lock on the passenger door unlike the Citigo S.

To be honest, yes the Citigo is better but.... the 3 door S is £7630 while Pug are knocking base 107s out locally for £6245, thats a huge difference and the 107 etc have proven reliability and durability. They are cheap but last well and dont go wrong, our last one was superb.

I still went for the Skoda though!!

pentagon peugeot is doing the base 3 door 107 for £5890 otr i am serious tempted by it as it free road tax and congestion charge, the cheapest new citigo is £7190

The 107 is based on 10 year old technology and it shows based on what others have said, the Citigo is brand new tech based on the latest VW group chassis and has a more modern feel. The 107 was facelifted as it is coming to end of life to be replaced by the 108, so dealers are discounting the current one to sell all the old stock, that in itself is not good come resale time. The knock on effect of massive discounts and being an obsolete model will hit residuals badly.

I doubt it will hit residuals much when they are that cheap.... £5890 for a car thats as good as the 107 is seriously cheap. Look at values now, they havent lost much really. You can guarantee the 108 will be pricier and not as characterful either.

For the money, you cannot go wrong.... it really doesnt feel that much cheaper than the Citigo.

thats what i was thinking a 7 year old 107 still sales for £2000 to lose £4000 over 7 years its good going

Power in the 107 is slightly better than the 60ps. The torque is the same but comes in at lower RPM on the citigo.

MPG in the Citigi is 1mpg better and 7mpg better in the greentech.

CO2 emissions are slightly lower too.
