Mondeo V6 / ST24

Featured Replies

OK, for one reason or another (i.e. the fact I cant find any for sale locally and the fact I am just going off the idea), I am probably not going to get a Rover 620Ti....

However, I am now looking at the Mondeo V6 / ST24. There is an ST24 for sale near me for just over

That was one of my favourites on the Ford Demonstrator Fleet. I even preferred it to the ST200 as it was more relaxing to drive yet not too dissimilar in everyday performance..

I reckon you will be far better off with your first idea Paul.A snorter of a small older hot hatch unless I missed a thread where you'd gone off them!

Pug 205 gti,1.6 or 1.9,Mk ii golf gti,pug 106 gti.Reckon you'd have more fun and cheaper fun than the bigger cars especially with insurance, fuel etc.You mind find them easier to tinker with yourself as well

Think you'd get a bit bored quick with the others ;)

I used to like the Citroen AX GT .Gotta be able to pick one of those up for about a quid :D

That 106 Rallye looked like it had been barried up that was my only reservation.

Chap I work with has an ST24 - two words - fuel consumption.

At a push you can use a tank in a couple of hours! And it's a big tank!

:thumbdwn: ST24 has a dodgy bottom end:rolleyes: For the money you quote be very careful and try to get one with a good service history if at all possible

Phil, at the price, something tells me its too good to be true.... but I guess I'll have a look at it all the same.

I am just gonna have a go of a few cars and see what I think. Just guaging opinions here really...

Theres also a really tidy looking completely standard Cavalier SRi 2.0 8v for about

Paul, be carefull. Ford build quality is so bad that an ageing Mondeo could well turn into a full time hobby to keep it going. Most of the major stuff will last o.k., but things like suspension bushes, ball joints and clutch parts are a disaster. In my experience the cheapness of Ford spares is a myth aswell, Renault prices are comparable and they're supposed to be one of the most expensive.

What about a MK II Golf GTI or a Seat Ibiza GTI, much better build quality and a fair bit more street cred. too. :)

I had a V6 Ghia X as my last full-time company car and I absolutely loved it. Comparable fun factor to the VRS. When I gave it back after 2 years without resetting the cumulative MPG trip, it read 32 and a bit MPG.

Ford front lower suspension arms do require replacement at intervals - one on my 2.0 that I had after the V6 cost around

All mondeos suffer from the problem with the lower suspension arms, had mine done just after I got the car at a local tyre place cheaply. I am also looking at V6's to replace the 2.0 that now has 133K miles on the clock that has never let me down.

*cough* Anglesey *cough* :D

To be fair though, that gets said to me about virtually every car I suggest... and lets face it, at

That was me doing a Jason and not putting a gasket on properly, managed to catch it on something and it split as I was doing up the bolts. The only reason I changed the gasket was a tiny oill leak, and I ended up with a flood. Its done lots of miles since then, 300+ a week without a hicup. Things I have replaced in 2 years of ownership (32K Miles) on a 11 year old mondy are, 4 Tyres, exhaust backbox, 2 lower wishbones, and two camshaft cover gaskets (after I broke one) and servicing costs. The interior looks like its just come out of the showroom, just the bodywork is developing a tiny amount of rust around the rear arches.

Paul, not much experience with the V6 Mondeo but always quite like them. For god's sake run a mile from those 620 Ti heaps of crap. Utter garbage imo.

Get a nice oak green 8v / 16v Mk2 Golf for around the

Aye You can get a really smart late (90 onwards) Valver MK2 GTI for between a grand and grand and a half!!!

Cheap plentiful bits and loads of tuning potential! Plus more classy than a mundano!

If you look hard enough you can get Seat Ibiza GTI's for about a grand! My brother got his, P-Plate, 75Kmiles, FSSH Ex-company car for 1100 squid!!!!! 2litre 8V, loads of torque and 35+Mpg...42 odd on a motorway run ;)

Pulled on to a Tesco express car park last night.Parked next to dark silver police st220 in full livery. It is so much nicer looking than my car :o

There is a black unmarked one patrolling the area near me.

They look rather stunning.Presume the only reason everyone hasn't got one is the 3.0 ltr engine, hefty new price tag and 6 mpg

Blooming smart they are.Be interested to see if they are cheap second hand.Bet the police get them for peanuts
