That's a lot of Petrol

Featured Replies

My low fuel warning light came on yesterday, going home from work, nothing special in that. This morning, the gauge went to empty, strange I thought, as it usually lasts a bit longer than that (work is only 13 miles away).

So I stopped to fill up, and it took 63.19 litres! I have never put that much in. I haven

The petrol pumps will not be out. There is capacity for a couple of litres in the inlet pipe etc.

Oh yeah, hadn't thought of that. Still never put in so much though

When I bought my Disco the low fuel light was on (typical small garage! ), so popped into a local Shell and filled up with 88.7 litres of diesel and thought there must be a hole in the fuel tank.... turns out it has a 90l tank.... That was an expensive day! ;)

Chris

does the size of the tank differ from model to model on the cty's then?

i was sure my vRS only held 50l ??

Tank on the 4x4 is 65l and I regularly put that much in, sometimes more.

Pumps have been found to be as much as 10% out in some cases by trading standards.

Chris, count yourself lucky you had a diesel Discovery. I knew someone who bought a second hand V8 petrol and couldn

So why does the 4x4 hold more then? I would have thought it would be the other way around with the 4x4 tank needing to be smaller to accomodate running gear under the car.

The Octy 4x4 uses a different floorpan to accomodate the running gear, so there may be space for a larger fuel tank to fit.

4x4 uses a twin tank setup. Capacity is higher because of the higher fuel consumption.

Also, does anyone else find the fuel gauge needle doenst rise to the very very top despite squeezing in a couple of quid afetr the pump initially knocks off?

Yep, although vagcom adaptation can improve it.

i believe the octy rs is 55 litres.

I regularly squeeze 63l into the Superb. The VW van takes 80l every 4 days

Every time i fill the octy (when it tells me I have 10 miles left to go )I always seem to squeeze the same in which is 48 litres.

Is that computer a bit inaccurate then?

4X4 fuel capacity is 63 litres of which 8 is reserve and other Octavias are 55 litres of which 7 litres is reserve. (Source: Octavia Technical data handbook).

I've (only once :D ) pulled into a filling station with the computer telling me I've got 0 miles left  . Still only managed to get 48 litres in, so I think that when the computer is suggesting you're about to splutter to a halt, you still have the 7 litre reserve available.
