Shampoo recommendations

Featured Replies

Have finally finished the Turtlewax Zip Wax shampoo bottle, so I'm in the market for a new shampoo and wondered what you gurus would recommend? I don't want anything that strips off the protection I have on my car (which is presently EGP sealant but might be wax in future). I don't snowfoam when I wash (I'm too tight/poor) so I rely on the shampoo as the only chemical/detergent in regular, week to week washing (I say weekly, it is likely to be less over the winter)

I'm not objectionable to so-called wash and wax products if they can improve the finish or help my LSP last longer, maintain beading etc but I suspect you chaps will recommend a pure shampoo?

  • Optimum no rinse! No need to drag the pressure washer and foam out for every wash. I'm addicted to the stuff, get round the fabia in 30 mins start to finish.

  • Yes this is special stuff! I add a bit to my normal AG shampoo as well as using for a quick wash with minimal water. Plus you can use it as a quick detailer.

  • If you haven't used ONR give it a try.I used it on my very dirty wheels at first and was exreamly impressed with its cleaning powers and water beading ability and no scratches or swirls. Only needed

Megs gold class, easy to get hold of(halfords), pretty good and wont strip any LSP.

If you don't mind wash and wax products then I agree. Megs gold class is a good one. If you're going to go with a wax, choose the same manufacturer with your shampoo if you can as this will prolong the life of your lsp as they will be designed to work together. The reason I like pure shampoo's is that the protection that is on the car when I rinse the shampoo off is the lsp I put there, not one from the shampoo that will last a couple of rain showers. If that is what you want then look at wolf chemicals white satin on polishedbliss.co.uk 20ml is plenty in 8-10l of water and is great value as 1l of it will last for 50 washes give or take. It's the best shampoo I've used by quite a distance. Free postage on polishedbliss too.

Megs gold class isn't a wash and wax, unless I misunderstood the above. :)

Meguiars Gold class ....Not found a better one for the price

It leaves behind gloss enhancers and very limited protection. So it's not a pure shampoo as such, but a great shampoo none the less.

I've been very pleased with Valet-Pro Poseidon Wash http://www.cleanyour...l/prod_734.html which gives really good beading. I've got Collinite 476 on the Yeti now, but before that it looked like it had been waxed after a wash. Two months in with the 476 and it still looks just as good on the first day, so the Poseidon Wash certainly doesn't do the wax any harm.

I actually really rate Meguairs Ultimate Wash & Wax.

I've been a little more lax than usual this year on the detailing front with having a new baby, so I've not polished and sealed since June. Despite that, washing with this and drying with a spritz of Megs Last Touch, the car still looks good and is beading well.

Its quite good but can affect your LSP's beading characteristics

Gold Class doesnt as it has no wax in it..which IMO is a good thing

Wash and Wax Shampoo will give you a few days of protection at best..So if you dont polish/wax or seal your car but wash it every week its for you..OItherwise..waste of money

meguiars ultimate wash and wax is a good shampoo, nice and lubricated and a decent finish, my only gripe is it leaves the car hard work to dry. Gold class shampoo is defo good stuff and would always recommend this to people, but i prefer the nxt wash instead.

ive just finished a bottle of poorboys super slick and suds, which is as described, but like ultimate wash and wax it leaves a lot of water on the car which makes it harder to dry.

autogylm shampoo leaves a nice glossy finish and repels a lot of water, but i dont find it that slick or sudsy to use.

my next buy will be the carlack shampoo when cyc have it back in stock!

NXT can affect the performance of LSP's

Ive ditched that now in favour of Gold Class

THE BEST Ive used, but not cost effective v Megs GC is Prima Hydro Shampoo (Nice slick feel and cleans nicely)

Well I have some Halfrauds vouchers that need using so I think it's going to the Meguiars Gold Class or Ultimate Wash and Wax. Thanks for the suggestions chaps. One other thing, I have a detergent bottle with me new Nilfisk C130, is it worth applying any shampoo to the car through this before going in with the washmit and buckets? I'm not interested in snow foam at the moment, I don't have the budget for a decent lance.

have a look at the angelwax website, very reasonable and good products! I used them recently and they were ggrrrreeeaaat!

I'm just not convinced snow foam is worth the money, everywhere I read seems to be a 50/50 split between people says it's great and people saying it does sod all. An Autobrite HD lance is going to be circa fifty quid, before I even get the foam solution, so I think the money would be better spent on a random orbital polisher, pads and some gTechniq or Diamondbrite - but I'll leave all that for another thread and another day! Nevertheless I appreciate the link Chris, I'm considering coming up to see you with the Furby at some point but I need to get mechanical issues and my shot alloys wheels sorted first :(

+1 for the Autobrite HD lance - it's very good. The group buy (either civinfo or detailing world) gets you the lance and a litre of concentrate (which will do a lot of washes) for £39.99 delivered, so not too bad.

Get it booked in and I'll show you the Snow Foam working too.. ;)

Just let me know when

Cu soon

Martin..I have some polish that will totally remove that scratch on your tailgate

You don't happen to do boost leaks and/or MAFs too do you? :giggle: I think I need to get my alloys done first, I am getting fed up of pumping two of the tyres up on a weekly basis. And every time I wash them more lacquer seems to come off them. You'll love working on my paint, it's never had machine correction and I suspect it's been washed with a brush more than once, then there is the truly hideous guano stain on the bonnet (that is a respray job, it went all the way through the lacquer, not my fault before anyone says!) :notme:

Excellent :) Next Yorkshire meet, then?

Mmm...I'll have a go..LOL

I like a challenge....World Challenge..that is :giggle:

Excellent :) Next Yorkshire meet, then?

Yes...In late November probably...Or I can do a mini detail on your car before then if you like

Sorry for hijacking the thread but Im really interested in a snow foam lance and the auto brite lance looks good quality however Im really struggling with the snow foam bit, can someone offer some advice on what's best and from where. Im looking for something that will produce a nice thick foam but will not strip the wax off the car, I don't mind having to physically wash that car after so it doesn't need to be touchless.

I spotted Banana Gloss Hyper shampoo, is this any good?

The Autobrite Super Snow Foam supplied with the HD Snow Foam Lance (in the group buy Chris linked to) is wax safe. Another one is Valet-Pro pH Neutral Snow Foam. I've tried both and neither appears to have had a detrimental effect on the Collinite 476 coat on my Yeti. I tried it as touchless wash, but the country lanes round here are too generous with their mud, and a wash with a mitt is needed afterwards.

I'm on Auto Finesse Avalanche foam at the moment. Seems pretty good.
