Cambelt and Tapping Noise

Featured Replies

Hello, can anyone tell me if my cambelt is due? It has done 81,000 miles and the cambelt was changed on the 11.11.09 at 52,000 miles. Also i have just noticed a tapping noise coming from the engine, can anyone help?

Thanks

I would change it for piece of mind. As for the tapping noise I don't think that will have anything to do with "the time to change the cambelt"

Hi, ordinarily 3 yrs/around 30k doesn't constitute a belt change. Just did mine, albeit on a Felly, at 50k ish and for me the trigger (4 yrs).

Would need more information to comment on the tapping.

Elsewhere on here ,the change is due at (from memory) 4 years or 60k. Think there's an info post on cambelt changes

What would be the worst case scenario for not changing the timing belt, mines is a 1.4 16v done 80K and its a 52 plate? :/

not had it changed in its lifetime (as far as i can see)

Having to purchase a new engine? :)

It sounds like I should get it changed. It's a fabia vrs and the tapping noise is on idle, when I rev the car I can't hear it I don't know if this is because the engine gets louder or not. What other information would help you? Thanks for your help

Hi, if in fact you have an issue it sounds like it may originate from the top end & may associate with the camshaft/followers etc. This can arise from issues such as oil pressure/prolonged service intervals/wrong oil spec. Closer inspection may be the only real way to tell but without hearing it first hand it's hard to know. A belt change would be precautionary.
