Many times when I read post here about alarms in Skodas I read the term CAT 1

Is this a specification that your insurance require when you install a alarm??

How you activate this aftermarket Alarm??? Do you have a keychain remote for this alarm???

So you have to be with your Skoda remote key and also the alarm remote???

Can you explain me.

I want to install a alarm in my L&K and wants to know all the options.

Isaac - you are right that it is a British thing. The Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre (MIRRC), known as Thatcham, tests and approves 'aftermarket' security systems. CAT 1 is Thatcham's top level approval and means a combined alarm and immobiliser. The Alarm has to have (1) full perimeter and passenger compartment sensing and battery backed-up siren (2)

Passively armed immobiliser isolating a minimum of two operating systems (3) Anti-scan, anti-grab key-code system (4) Coded fuel valve for diesels.

Yes - Insurance companies will sometimes reduce their rates depending on the specification of the alarm.

The one fitted to most RS's in this country I understand was fitted by Skoda UK and is a Skorpion alarm - it has a separate alarm key fob - des has given a picture of this at this link: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=11390

I have a Sigma M32 cat2 to cat1 upgrade (the RS is Cat2 as standard). Integrates into the standard keyfob

The reason given for the Skoda/Scorpion cat1 upgrade having a separate fob is that the standard fob can't handle enough code combinations to qualify for cat1.

Does your Sigma upgrade replace the electronics in the fob? And if so, why can't the Skoda/Scorpion upgrade do this?

Having said that, I quite like having the two fobs as it means I can easily lock it without the alarm armed.

Zooty - agree I quite like having the option whether to arm the alarm or not ..... although its not much use when the alarm decides its going to go off no matter what :( It took the Skoda dealer three days in the end to find what was wrong with my alarm last month - it wouldn't turn off even when you used the deactivating key :eek: They eventually said they had found a wiring problem but they looked mighty pleased to see the back of my car - receptionist said it had been sitting in the service bay wailing away on & off for the whole period :speaker:

Expensive, but i would never cut corners on security.

But do in Your country the thief steal the Skoda cars??? What I mean is that our key has a built in chip that do not alow the car to start without the onwer key.

Do the thief there knows how to disasemble that chip to steal the car itself.

Or the alarm is more to protect the radio and other things inside the car.????

Here in Panama nobody steal european car.............

They only brake the glass to get the radio, etc

The HOT car that thief steal here are Diesel 4x4 like landcruiser, Fourruneer etc..................
