Octavia vRS Blackline Diesel Estate - First Impressions!

Featured Replies

Picked up new vRS blackline, race blue, on Monday having not test driven the car. First impressions are very good. Engine nice and torquey compared to previous passat 2.0 petrol. Ride firmer than passat but expected this. Engine noise for a tractor engine seems quite refined (only previously owned petrol cars). Road noise from tyres is a little more than I'd anticipated and much more than passat but not too loud to worry.

Over first 200 miles have averaged 53mpg and on todays run into Manchester managed 57.6mpg, much (much) better than the passat. I have to say that I don't expect more than this as had a pretty clear run and just plodded at 60mph in 6th gear with cruise control on.

Thought car came with auto wipers which I liked on the passat but believe it only has adjustable intermittent wipe - can live with this as still some control of the wiper frequency.

Also thought car came with multi-cd player instead of single - you can tell I did a lot of homework on the spec! Just as well I tend to repeat Pink Floyd / Dave Gilmour albums over and over again! I guess if I get the urge to switch albums I can hook up the ipod.

Nearly crashed on day 2 after selecting reverse instead of 1st gear whilst queuing into Manchester! Reverse was next to 5th on my passat. I think I've got the hang of things now but could have been nasty (and a little embarrasing).

I do believe the volkwagen was more solid construction, the doors closed with a solid thud as per the golf tv adverts, more of a push with the skoda - however, the build quality of the skoda seems excellent.

All-in-all very pleased and glad I didn't pay 1000's and 1000's more for a similar spec VW or Audi. As I'm not up my own *** I didn't even contemplate a BMW. Plus, I'm not very good at cutting people up so would never have fitted into the arrogant BMW owner club!

Already pre-ordered my Xmas pressy from my wife, a spare wheel+kit, as feel a little uncomfortable about using repair kits (prefer to keep these for my push bike!). Glad Skoda left the hole in the boot as I understand some cars don't have the option to carry a spare.

So, only been a Skoda owner for 3 days and very happy. Big thanks to the guy at Northwich skip that gave the vRS a glowing report whilst we were emptying the garden waste, and to all those that left postive reviews on the net and youtube.

Griffo

Don't buy a spare wheel keep an eye on eBay and here for some winter tyres and wheels you'll pick a set you for circa £150 for 4 tool kit for £35. You've then got winter tyres and use one as a spare when your summer wheels aren't on one of those becomes the spare.

hmmm...good advice, i'll keep a look out on ebay...do winter wheels/tyres affect the tacho/speedo?

Is there a particular size I need to look for?

Hi and welcome aboard.

Good to see you are enjoying the car even though you nearly pranged it. :hi:

You can copy your CDs onto an SD card, up to 32gb, and you will have alot more music than you would with 6 CDs

Techno agnostic here....my computer has a hole, or should i be more technical and say a slot, in the side of it which I can use for card for photo's. Does this mean I can also download music? :drunk:

Glad to hear that you're liking it Griffo, welcome along

I've just bought 205/55/16s ( paid £180 with almost new vredestiens on) for my vrs mk2 so same as yours really speedo has dropped 1mph at 80 it was 77 when showing 80 it's now 76 I can live with that lower down its hardly noticeable. I put the wheels on to check they where ok then took them off again, now after looking at the forecast I'll be swapping them again at the weekend doh.

Yep you can load music onto an SD card in the slot thing in the computer just like you would photos drag and drop.
