cd player fitting

Featured Replies

hi all i have read the pinned article on wiring and i cant get my head around it i only had a radio and tape player in my fabia 03 model . so i went to halfords and bought a new phillips cd player i took the old one out that went fine then plugged the new one in and that went fine plays great but i now have a problem where it does not keep permanent live . so i have to do the whole set up programme every time i get in there can anyone explain in laymans terms what i need to do to get a permanent live thanks so much guys

On the wiring harness that came with your cd player

you will most likely see a red wire and a yellow wire

with little bullet or spade connectors about halfway down them. Sometimes they

are in line fuseholders. Depends on the stereo...

You need to unplug them and rejoin them so they are opposite.

Red wire to yellow wire and Yellow wire to red wire.

And then refit the radio with the connections switched around.

Then it will work properly and switch off automatically

as you remove the key. It will also remember all your stations/settings.

The reason for this is that on VAG and couple of others perhaps the

switched live goes to a different pin on the iso plug connector thats

on the wiring of the car.

Hope that makes sense.

Good luck

Found a useful pic, this is the harness for a kenwood though.

But make connections on red and yellow the same as the pic.

grr666 the phillips cd player did not come with a wiring harness just 2 plugs on the back which the plugs in the dash fitted straight in

This ^^^

Alternatively, you can swap the pins in the plug around in the plug as

per fabdavravs guide. But a wiring adaptor would be easier as I reckon

swapping pins could be a bit on the fiddly side. I've never tried to do it myself.

For the sake of £2.62 I'd just get the adapter.

Me too... I'd be worried I'd mess that up.

So until I can watch someone else do it

I wouldn't attempt it.

right lads before you call me a tight ar*e for not spending 2.50 on an adaptor i had some free time today so i had a bash ill tell you what i did i had 2 tent pegs and ground the ends down very small to fit inside the multi plug . i then popped out plug no 7 which is black with a blue stripe .which is the constant live. i then popped out plug no 4 which is brown with a red stripe which is the switch supply to the ignition . i then swapped them around this took about 2 mins to do but it took me 3 hours to find something strong enough and thin enough to push into the plug to be able to release the pins cheers lads and the credit goes to fabdavrav for the electrical explanation

Hahaha were you born in Yorkshire?

I have a 52 Fabia SDI and have removed the Kenwood HU in favour of a 'Skoda' 411 (Grundig).  The Kenwood was very badly fitted and didn't retain the stations.  I swapped over the red yellow leads on the loom and slid the Kenwood back in.  Dead as a door nail now so I have gone for the Grundig.  Fitted it this morning and my replacement will not switch off!  So after reading this Im going to swap over the Bl/Bu for the Br/R wires in the morning.....unless there is something else I can do.  Any advice appreciated.
