Hi all

Been to seen to see two Felicia's yesterday, first one very poor, second one not too bad.

One fault that was common on both was the temp gauge not moving from cold? But after a run both engine coolant pipes seemed to heating up nicely.

I presume someone has come across this before and whereas this is a problem its not enough to put me off buying the car but is it an easy fix, sensor most likely?

Also the good one did not come with PAS, im sure iv heard someone say it can be fitted after although id most likely live without it

If it runs OK then the gauge issue isn't really a problem. There are two temperature sensors in the engine (both located in the same physical unit) - one for the gauge, one for the ECU that controls the engine. Replacing it is dead easy (accessible at the top of the engine, just a little plastic clip holds it in place, then a bit of topping up of the water is needed), I think they're about £15 new. The other possible issue is that the thermostat has broken up, and the engine is actually staying cold all the time. Again, not a difficult fix - the same housing needs to be replaced, they are about £20 (or were when I last bought one!), and can all be done from the top of the car, just means a bit more topping up is needed when done. If the pipes really were hot then I would suspect the sensor, but often people only know because the MPG is so poor (as the engine stays in 'warm up' mode).

Retrofitting PAS is not easy. It means all the pump, pipes, reservoir and steering rack would need to be replaced (as is always the case with a manual > PAS conversion), but also the steering column as well as the bit that connects to the rack is a different size. It's not really practical unless you have a complete donor car and not cost effective unless you'd be doing it yourself.

ISTR that EJ is a qualified mechanic, so any issues are likely to be over facilities rather than skills.

I just wanted to make sure that it was a simple sensor problem rather an open thermostat as i seem to remember friends car having an open thermostat and ran fine, just blow cold fans and used a shed load of petrol! Just find it odd how both cars exhibited the same fault, even with the second one been a very nice example.

What do you guys think its worth?

It is an L so no PAS,CL ect ect i say no more then £350

Hi ya, I've had similar temp related probs on my Fellys and my current old girl tends to run slightly on the cooler side but with no related issues. Are you sourcing a Felly for you or one of your kids? My lad did initially look at one but soon came to the conclusion it just wouldn't have mates cred & tbh the insurance wasn't that cheap! L reg £350 is definitely top end & around £200 would look better ;)

Tbh i think they are cool at tits on a kipper, i love them! Its for myself, not only do i not have any children yet but when i do have children i am not buying them a car, they want to drive they can buy one but thats a different story :)

I dont mean L reg i mean L trim level, i believe they come in L Slxi and something else top end?

Isn't the GLXi the top one?

Emma mines an LX and the only extras are a drivers airbag and anti lock brakes, and you're so right about the cool factor.

Great Felly minds think alike

Sorry should have realised it was model & not reg related. Price wise typically anything ranging up to £600 ish depending on the usual criteria. ;)

Lauren and Klemens, as per the top end Octy (and Superb?), and the original coachbuilding firm that Skoda grew out of. IIRC the Fellie L&K was a limited edition though.

Was/is it that one from Scarborough., recently on eBay?

Try changing the sensor first [colour band really doesn't matter, as I've recently found out....]....my Felly recently became an insurance write-off, so went to the gert scrappy in the sky [or rather, Full Sutton!].....so, like the OP, I will eventually look for another, once the flak has died down, and I've sold on it's current replacement [one of those grotty Ford Festers]....the felly was 'taken' even though it was essentially 'undamaged' and was driven up to the end.......but the write-off offer was more than I'd have got selling it, so I took the opportunity....and have you all worked out the admin costs of putting a Cat C write-off back on the road again?.......it is the future insurer who is the issue, not the Govt.

Oh how I do miss my L&K Felly:

Your to blame for this! Iv always been keen on the felicia but till i saw yours i was like wow! Mega want!

As mentioned above, the plastic thermostat housings self-destruct internally leading to them to be open. Same issue on the Fabia 1.4mpi. How wonderful those VW "improvements" that everyone keeps going on about with Skoda are. The old ones were cast aluminium and never gave a problem.

Go with manual steering, good excuse to eat more pies and chocolate :D
