Built in shower

Featured Replies

See what you mean now, just taken delivery of a new occy blackline with the usual extras added + built in shower attachment , ie when it rains hard which it does more than frequently here, dont open the boot lid even slowly unless your wearing a wet suit, or you have got some soap and you want a shower. I have never noticed this problem to be so sever on any other hatchback i have owned and i have had a few, is it because the hatch is so slopped and long with flat sides. Has anybody got a answer to this. Yes on all hatchbacks it chucks off water when you open it but the water rarely goes in the boot as it does on this.My previous 1.2 dsg fabia certainly did not do it.

As you've seen, it's due to the design of the tailgate and the degree of the slope.

Best advice I can give is to open and hold the bootlid for a few seconds half-way, to give the accumulated water a change to travel into the drainage channels at the sides. Never 100% perfect and it's just 'one of those things' really :rain:

Completely different design to the Fabia which has quite a flat tailgate, so the water doesn't get stored up.

Following the advice from someone here I have fitted strips of clear plastic door edge protector to the glass and metal on both sides.

Hasn't stopped it 100% but now only get a few drops falling onto the plastic at the sides of the rear parcel shelf.

Cost about £7 from Halfrauds and 10 mins to attach.

Interesting. Got a photo of it attached?

I wonder if this "feature" has been carried forward to the Octy III

Even worse on a VRS as you also have the water load that accumulates on the spoiler.

Polish the spoiler it will beed then fall off at the slightest touch when you go to open it

i get the same on my 1998 5dr civic vti-s. You have to be careful as it goes into the boot!

I'd expect most cars with this kind of sloping boot design with spoiler suffer from it

Can't find the topic on here at the moment.

It'll be the weekend before I get chance to take any pics but I'll post them as soon as I can.

This is the stuff I used - http://www.halfords....tegoryId_246902

Found the post I was talking about - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/244098-almost-non-drip-tailgate/

You do need to put one piece on the glass and another on the metal edge under the glass. Just putting it on the glass doesn't stop the problem.

Thanks for that Mark, will have a go. Shame though, as I was in Halfords yesterday and could have picked some up :)

It has been polished and waxed which makes the water run off easier :@

I have read another site Vauxhall somebody suggested lifting the rear wiper up to allow the water to run into the channels helps, cant see how myself but worth a shot.

Here lies the problem.

The polish holds more water on the tailgate.

Yes, it runs off easier and faster but only when the boot is opened, and that's when it enters the boot.

As above, the quickest and most effective solution is to open the boot slowly to give the water time to run off into the channels.

The wider open the boot is then the more likely the water is to miss those channels.

Better still, don't polish the boot lid!

By the way if you think the Octavia is bad, try a Ford Puma!

Me too

Exactly what I did!

Did you also put some on the metal edge under the glass?

Doesn't stop it 100% but is much better.
