Washer fluid level check?

Featured Replies

Just wondering...how are you meant to check how much wash fluid is left? The bottle is hidden down inside the engine bay so you can't actually see a level against it. Are you supposed to just wait for the warning light to come on?

You cannot see the bottle, I would not wait till the light either assuming you actually have a warning as my dads Fabia MK2 does not, and just add some periodically until the bottle is completely full. Perhaps top-up weekly which is what I do with the Audi.

I top it up every time i dip the oil, which is often.

If i have not been squirting the screen it does not need topped up,

but since the rear screen needs constant washing it gets topped several times a week.,

just keep a litre mixed in the boot, for when it does run out, then refill at home and get another litre in the boot

Mine only gets topped up once a year as I keep my edit: windscreen car clean. I've hardly used any since last topped up.

Do you drive only clean roads or in a town, no splashing from other traffic or bird **** or anything.?

My car sets off clean on every journey but the windows still need wiped or washed even on a nice summers day,

especially on nice summers days with dust & stoor.

Washed again at the end of a journey.

i wipe the rain water of with a spare wiper most mornings before i set off and wash my car regularly, i like to keep my windscreen clean.

I believe the Fabia only gets washer fluid level warning if you happened to spec the optional headlight washers; you get a bigger washer reservoir and the chime and warning on the maxi-dot when they get low.

Not quite as annoying as the fact you only get a rear courtesy light if you specify the sunroof; thats Skoda value for you!

This is the thing...the manual says it has one (there's no star next to it like the other optional stuff), but if it doesn't really it's a bit of a dumb design hiding the washer bottle as well.

I've got a load of cheap halfords stuff from 2 years ago which I've still to use up (says it's ok with fan jets too) so I've put a bit in today.

I top it up regularly, my wife let's hers go til empty, then lets me drive the car and find out the hard way.

Fabia55 - you must be lucky - I had to use screen wash at least 5 times this morning (front - rear a couple), so washing the car and wiping the screen before use would last about 5 minutes.

Especially around here - chalky muddy deposits all over the road - wipers alone cannot clear that.

Hardly a problem if you top it up every weekend! I would suggest using concentrate from now on until next spring, as it clears ice faster and avoids seized wiper motors! As the fluid is blue it is easy to see the level, just filll it right to the top.

LOL.

Some of us use it all year, diluted in Summer & more concentrate in winter.

-30 Screen wash in now. (Yellow)

2 litres used this week already to keep the bottle filled.

I find even when it is liquid in the bottle it is not when it hits a frozen Windscreen

& the last thing i would do would be spray it at an icy windscreen.

I do once the interior and screen is hotter, but am always ready with the de-icer incase the screenwash freezes as i drive.

It was a 23 degrees heatwave up here in March & Snowing/Freezing in April/May.

Back to below freezing again by September.

I have never needed to top it up between services! :o I just leave it to the garage at the service and its never run out... it seems to have a very efficient spray pattern that doesn't use much fluid...

One thing I miss from the Mk 1 is the low level warning. I know it's there in the maxidot and somebody tried activating it via VCDS. It didn't work because the sensor isn't fitted. Wonder if the sensor wiring is present on cars without the headlamp washer option ?. I imagine the sensor version will have a larger washer bottle too. Might have a poke around the washer bottle when I get chance.

I always fill mine up when the car going in for a service then I like to argue the to$$ when they charge me for screen wash.

VW dealer always used to charge me for screenwash even if I filled it to the brim the day before the service.

Had the vRS serviced last month - bill didn't mention screenwash but they must have topped it up as it was full upon checking. I'm another that can go from one service to another without topping up, but then I only do 5,000 miles per year.

Ah, didn't realize!

I had the pleasure of hiring a top of the range Insignia a couple of years ago. I had it for four days and about 500 miles of wintry motorway driving. In those 4 days I had to top the washer fluid up twice. I reckon this was because the headlamp washers (xenon lamps) used loads of water every time I cleaned the windscreen. I wasn't impressed with the car despite it being the most powerful and luxurious car I'd ever driven.

I am filling up my water weekly, however, just recently it seems as if the water container is broken (Fabia x reg) - is this easy to replace?
