DSG shifting problems

Featured Replies

Hello lads!

I have an 2012 TSI vRS which randomly does not upshift in D or S in third and forth gear. I have to press the paddle shift because if I wait to long I will have misfires and the CEL will begin to flash.

Any ideas?

Why would you NOT take this back to the garage where you bought this, before posting the question here?

I just what to know if I am the only one or there others with this problem before I hit my clueless dealer.

if the fault is causing the CEL to come on then fault codes will have been recorded on the ECU, so it should be dead easy to diagnose and fix.

Reading the other thread I don't think your dealer will help as you have modified your DSG software.

I did not realise the DSG software was not factory, the problem is obviously software related to the box and a dealer will be unlikely to help you now as you have voided your warranty. You really need to get the DSG software removed and the factory software reinstalled and go back to the dealer.

What I cannot understand is why you did the DSG software when you had a known issue with the box that could have been rectified easily before getting the DSG software upgrade.

Why would you NOT take this back to the garage where you bought this, before posting the question here?

Because someone may have the same issue as the opp and could share their experiences, not to mention being armed with some info before the dealer tries to rip them off?!?

This is one of the best parts of this forum, people sharing their experiences.... so why are some so quick to have a dig?!?

I have the same engine and gearbox combo and so does my brother on his VRS both ours have no issues as described above. I was under the impression that most of the issues have been sorted on the new DSG gearboxes.

I did not pay very much attention the first week I had the car because I was very excited but problem did appear stock, thats why I tried to solved it flashing with Unitronic DSG software but problem persisted.

Something has already been posted with no answers:

That's a different issue from what you have described though. I really think your better taking it to your dealer but be prepared for a fight especially now the gearbox has been flashed with different software

The dealer is not very smart, first thing I will do is ask the tech to restore the dsg software and see what happens. If the problem persists then war will begin.

The issue that you will have is the dealer diagnostics can tell its been modified even if put back to standard if they check then I think u will have issues. Good luck in getting it sorted

Never seen this problem before. im at a loss as to why you did'nt get the problem fixed under warranty. You could be looking at 3 figure sums to repair a brand new car. The done thing is to wait till car is over 3 years old before messing with it.

Have to agree with others if there was a problem in the first place I wouldn't have remapped it.

I've not modded the octavia but on my fabia I run it for 10k first to be sure there was no issues.

Put it back and hope you can get it sorted. Most good dealers if you have a good relationship with them will turn a blind eye to mods.....in my experience.

Good luck

His car is a 2012 and I commented before he posted his 'full story' link. With such a new car MY first port of call would have been the dealer. Am all for forums for help. Surely if u spent 600 on a new iPhone that was faulty you would take it back?

Just read the link, looks like the car has been well and truly **atted, I still can't believe someone would not take a car straight back to a dealer if it had a serious problem "since day one" but rather spend 1000s on doggy software and hoses. If I saw what's been done under the hood, I would'nt touch it.

Aftermarket is one of the biggest reasons we all buy VAG cars and not Megane RS, WRX STI,etc. So don`t judge me for upgrading the car. I thought it was one time problem but know with the use of the car I know it is recurrent.

I have discovered that Passat CCs have the same problem in the US.

My performance upgrades are not that big, not like doing forged pistons and rods with a BT setup!

But the moment you modify gearbox software and have issues with the box even if the problem was there before modifications you throw any warranty you have away. All you have done is give them a get out clause by modifying the box

For sure, but would still b the 2nd thing I would do... Naturally inquisitive I suppose and like to try understand what was going on, each to their own!

I really messed up, I thought that flashing with aftermarket software would have solved the problem

Sorry were not more supportive.

I would try anfd make it as stock as possible then go back to dealer and play dumb and hope for the best..

I understand you want something modded and special (only need to look at my sig to see what I've done!). I tend to add garnish and bits and bobs to mine, if I were into the sort of mods your doing, I would buy a cheaper out of warranty car. With a new car your paying for the warranty and peace of mind, I'd have got a high miler say 4 or 5 years old. Then mess about with it, if it goes wrong then throw it back to an indy or something.

Your box is not a software issue otherwise all the other boxes might be doing it, might be anything, sensor or something. DSG can cost massive amounts to put right, I would def get the car back to factory ASAP and then take it in and keep shtum. You could also take it to a VAG Indy and see what they say, it might cost a few 000 but its less hassle then going back to OEM. Even an auto tranny specialst might be able to help and work with your mods. A dealer will just send all the diags back to Skoda Tech and it will get spotted!
