Well, that was an unmitigated disaster

Thought as we'd just got the car I would waterproof the innards of the rear doors. Looked at the 'how to' and got amongst it. Everything went swimmingly, broke quite a few clips but local car shop had replacements. I masked off the area to fill, to keep it nice and tidy. Thought I'd use gutter sealant as I've used it before to repair leaks on roofs and it did the job.

Filled it all, smoothed it off, removed masking tape to leave a proper smart job, thought I'd re attach the door inner as nothing could go possibly go wrong. That was until I saw Noah go floating by waving today :rain: :rain: . It's been raining most of last night and all of today , so thanks to the wonderful sealing done by skoda I now have a nice milky liquid laying in the door shuts! Luckily I caught it before it got bad so have spent the last hour pulling it all apart and scraping out the goo that was left :wall:

Plumbers gold is ordered ready for 'waterproofing the doors - the return'

lol i should not laugh because i did the same yesterday but before it poured down i put duck tape across the windows to stop as much water going down as possible its worked anyway . but the problem i have is my sealer has not gone off tidy , i used evo stick exterior filler for metal and its still soft , its had 30 hours now and still soft . im just going to leave the panels off and leave the duck tape on for a couple of days

my gutter seal took ages to cure/dry, like weeks

I did use a whole LOAD of it though :giggle:

Can be a pain. Despite being guttered in the past mine has come through somewhat on one side.

I think its an ongoing battle with these poorly designed seals.

Just put a few papers down on the inner part of the well for now, at least it will soak up the water for now which is what I'm doing until I can be bothered to do a repeat of this job with gutter sealant.

My stuff didn't do that though, it wasn't poor quality product from somewhere like Tesco own brand was it ? although not having chance for it to dry and the downpour probably won't have helped either.

It's crap but I still have a cut up supermarket placcy bag held onto my NSR door with pegs. Seems to guide the water away OK... but looks horrible and blows about in any wind.

Got the idea from another member who came up with the term "curtains". :)

My old ones are for sale if you are interested... Pm me :giggle:

He's got some plumbers gold on order. That cures even if it gets wet.

That's what I used 2 months ago and it's been dry as a bone since......and it's been tested well, what with some of the monsoon type rain we've been having!

Yeah the plumbers gold is good...... I did my rear one the other day, and all is good! i need to do my drivers front now as noticed a bit of water on the rubber seal yesterday, it's not getting to the carpet but i'm guessing it will only get worse so must get on and do that!

Question, i tried getting the front door card off in preperation, but i'm struggling to get the armrest off..... the bit with the electric window/mirror switches are the problem, i can only get it partially out, not far enough though to enable me to slide the larger armrest cover along to reveal the screws. Might be i'm not using enough force, but it just seems like something needs releasing that i cant get too..... how do i get that bit out?

It just pops up. There is one clip at the back, and 2 on the front.

Once that's off, the handle slides across and off.

i think its the one at the back that might be the trouble then..... just cant get it to release. i broke the one on the back door handle so have been a bit gentler with the front one. Maybe i need to slot something down between that back one to release it.....

Lift it up from the front and shine a torch in the back, you can see how the back clip comes out, just gently push the clip you can now see with a flat bed screwdriver and it will pop off

I used plumbers gold and done both the front and rear doors. Went mental with the stuff and went through a whole tube. That was 2 years ago and still going strong now, awesome stuff!!
