Autoglym products... recommended alternatives please

Featured Replies

I'm currently using AG SRP and AG EGP. (Loads of it came with my `Lifeshine application) But I'm fed up with having to be so careful not to touch any plastic or rubber for fear of leaving white marks.

Can anyone kindly recommend a different polish and sealant that I can use that wont mark the trim?

Also, I'm considering changing to AG Glass Polish...is that the same in as much as it will mark the plastic/rubber trim?

Many thanks.

Mike.

I am afraid that you will have to improve your process as most products will mark the trim I am afraid..........:(

AG Fast Glass is a great product, I only tend to us the Polish when the screen is properly dirty.

Is there that much plastic/rubber to get the AG polish on? I can't recall there being much on mine.

I'm currently using Optimum Opti-Seal and Optimum Car Wax - both very easy products to use and they work on plastics too.

You could check out the range of Chemical Guys products - very good value for money IMO.

Only comparable one to AG i have found and better in some instances is Maguiars.

Autoglym do have a (Yellow sticker) Vinyl/rubber care product which is ace on black trim. It brings

them out a treat goes on clear but makes them nice and black. Although its not a harsh black like

'back to black' and it doesn't leave black marks on your polished paintwork like other trim restorers.

It might go some way to hiding any white accidental polish marks you get on your trim although

as previous poster said just be careful. Id stick with AG SRP.

Many many many alternatives

Have a look at the Shinearama website

http://www.shinearama.co.uk/

Yes, Chris, there are just too many to choose from... that's why I was hoping someone would come up with a recommendation.

Looks like I'll stick with what I've got and be continue to be careful.

Yeah, I've got `Fast Glass` and I've used it, but find my windows streaky afterwards. (I wonder if it could be the `Car Lack` stuff I've put on in the past...but didn't like). That's why I wanted to try something else.

Down each side of the windscreen

`Sharkfin` aerial

4 mudflaps

Lights...though I'm told it wont mark those.

I recommend this as an alternative to SRP if you want an AIO (Cleaner polish and sealant) product : Carlack 68 Nano http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/carlack-68-nano-systematic-care-various-sizes-/prod_356.html

If you want a polish to remove swirls: GTechnik P1 http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/gtechniq/p1-nanocomposite-polish.aspx

If you want a good cheap wax with great durability: Collinite 915 or 845 http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/collinite/845-insulator-wax.aspx

Shame youre not nearer

I can 'Detail' it for you:

Yeah I am aware of your laudable efforts. It would be a 6 hour round trip, plus you doing the work of course...just too far really. It is a shame coz I'd love the opportunity to pick up some tips from you.

Save the plastic crap until last, then use the Auto Glym Bumper Gel. Smells amazing, cleans crap off and adds a lovely shine. Looks especially good on tyres.

At the beginning of the show season I use this:

http://compare.ebay....type=pla&crdt=0

on my black bits, and then my follow usual AG regime, AG red, leave a couple of hrs, cloth off. AG Gold, leave in garage 1 to 2 days, cloth off. I don't get white marks.

When you say, `AG red`, do you mean SRP and `AG Gold`, EGP?

When you say `crap`, do you mean the white marks left by my careless application of SRP and EGP?

Yup, I only reach for the colour, I don't read the labels acronym

Exactly that. The gel not only adds a nice shine, but also removes excess grime/dirt as you go along. 3 for 2 in B&Q at the mo, or subscribe to Car Magazine and you get a free massive AG hamper. Job done.

Its quite good for an instant hit BUT it doesnt last long though despite its apparant looks immediately after application

This is far better: Autofinesse Revive

A more permanent solution is GTechnik C4

For plastic and keep a little black performs better

Valet Pro Dionysus Trim Glitz ;)

You could replace SGP and EGP with Gtechniq C2. I use this on my wife's 500 and it works really well leaving a smooth and glossy finish to the paint. You can also dilute it and use it as a QD in subsequent washes.

With C2 there is no problem with it getting on any trim or glass, you can even use it on wheels if you wanted to.

They have a new solution in trial at the moment and will be releasing it soon.

Cheers

Steve

I do find there's often a significant minority (on all motoring forums) who get very elitist when AG products are mentioned. Yes, there are other products out there, and yes, many are likely to be better. But for the average person who just takes pride in their car and wants it looking good, them SRP and EGP work brilliantly (aside from the trim staining) and produce a good finish. SRP is also a fairly heavy filler, so will cover up mild swirls etc.

I use all sorts of stuff by all sorts of companies, but AG is available from anywhere, and is easy to use :)

Strange post to make when Topic starter is explicitly asking for alternative recommendations to AG

Cheers

Steve

Does it do both jobs then, Steve...polish AND LSP?
