Underseat Lighting - which models ?

Featured Replies

I notice from various photo's on the web that some Superbs have underseat lighting which illuminates the rear footwells. Which models have it, and can it be fitted retrospectively to cars that don't have it ? Is the wiring actually in place but not active ?

Not on S spec

I have it on my Elegance

It's on SE...

SE and above (so Elegance and L&K also)

The wiring will not be there on an S, you may be able to retrofit it depending on your controller fitted.

On the SE? Must check, don't sit in the back so haven't seen it!

Yup - I've got it!

Interesting. My 5 week old Greenline SE doesn't have it. A bit of weight saving on the Greenline perhaps?

Does anyone know exactly where the lamp is mounted under the seat, is it easy to see ?

It is at the rear edge of the seat base.

I believe there's a setting in Maxidot for turning them on and off.

Not here :-( Front yes but nothing in the back?

Will check in daylight to see if any fittings in place.

Front and rear on SE Plus. Lights come on full strength when doors opened or ignition off. When ignition on they light up dimly. The brightness of the under-seat lights can be adjusted with Maxidot.

Adjustment of the brightness to the front footwells and under the front seats for the rear passengers was another toy I discovered about a month ago.

Had a check last night and found that the mounting holes were clearly there, in the rear of the front seat base, but alas no lights.

Couldn't really tell whether there was any wiring present - although there is obviously plenty of wiring for the heated seats, seat belt tensioner modules etc.

What are the chances of retro fitting?

It’s not a hard job to do, I fitted footwell lights to SWMBO’s TT earlier in the year from scratch (wired correctly as they would have been done if they had been factory fitted - directly to the controller).

All you would need to do is splice into the front footwell lights.

If you don’t fancy making the looms up from scratch then you could buy the lot already preassembled here for £24 delivered (then hope the wires are long enough).

It would not surprise me if the wiring was there and just tucked out of the way. People have been retrofitting footwell lights to the last two generations of Ford Mondeos by finding the mounting and just pushing in two 50 pence bulbs. Other manufacturers are known to do the same. I am going to have a look at the weekend under the seat.

Unfortunately VAG do not tend to do that.

Let me know if you find anything Pesmog, I'm going to have another devle under the seats in mine (in dyalight) to see whether the wiring is in place.

Strange how my SE doesn't appear to have, but hkp's does? Whilst your Greenline doesn't either? Mine was probably a Friday afternoon car

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

Also manual air-con upgradable to climate control with just a control panel and a couple of sensors - £50 total on fleabay - and no CanBus / VCDS issues either :whew:

I think it is only on models that have electric seats as standard.

My 7 week old Greenline Se doesn't have rear, it's got the front ones which can be changed via maxi-dot but nowt at the back.

Oh blimey yes, it's because I have an SE Plus.. Sorry!
