  • Maybe you should have bought another Audi?

  • This man speakith the truth lol.

  • Or you want a petrol. Or xenon headlights, curtain airbags, front parking sensors, sunroof, Columbus sat nav, heated front seats, auto lights and wipers etc. etc.

H7 is H7 mate. The eBay seller would have put the car make in there so they appear on searches I should think.

They'll all fit the Octavia...

Dipped headlights - H7

Main beam - H1

I think the seller has added different manufacturers infront of lots of listings for the same bulb to help with searches...

Historically factory fit optional extras have no effect on a cars resale value, they simply make it more attractive to potential buyers.

However if you believe what What Car? say then the Blackline scores well, especially if you chose blue or black (metallic) and DSG - that's a full house, 6 out of 6...

Hi silver1011- I'm a little confused as the blackline comes with no factory fitted optional extras- it's a distinct model in it's own right as per my v5 and it also has it's own listing as a sepetrate model with the insurance companies, so if you're assuming that the blackline will have the same value as a standard vRS then I don't think that's right, the blackline wil probably have it's own listing seperate from the normal vRS in the various price guides. cheers Ade

You all forget that you can get MASSIVE additional discounts on the standard VRS, with options, which you couldn't get on the blackline. You can pick up a standard vrs for £16255 online (and from dealers if you haggle)...so you have paid extra for your options, just not in the normal way.

It won't be worth more than a normal vrs that has been specced up similar to a blackline though. It's a vrs after all. It doesn't look any different to a Normal vrs that has black wheels. So really not exclusive as there are quite a few vrs octavias about.

Only stock vehicles now though

Now doubt someone will always get a better deal - that's life. I'm still over the moon with my BL and how much I paid for it and the package I got so if someone else can get what they want cheaper then fair play to them. :hi:

The Blackline is simply a vRS with a selection of pre-determined factory fit optional extra's at a discounted price.

My second hand vRS had quite a few expensive factory fit options on it when I bought (xenon's, rear PDC, curtain airbags, auto dimming rear view mirror, auto lights and wipers, cruise control, active headrests, Maxidot etc.) it but I paid the same price as a standard vRS, of which there were several available at the time of purchase.

I wanted these options so I waited for the right spec vRS to come up, it was more desirable to me (so it was easier for the seller to sell it) but it wasn't worth more than the lesser specced vRS's.

Im not an expert on curtain airbags but i had a crash 4 years ago where my clio hit a kerb side ways on flipped in the air and landed on its roof compressing the roof slightly and none of the airbags fired as none of the sensors had been triggered, apart from the roof the vehicle was undamaged.

However none of the doors would open and the engine was still running on fire and i couldn't reach the key to turn it off as i was suspended upside down from the seat belt disorientated. A motorbiker stopped kicked the window screen in and dragged me out turning the engine off just before the whole thing went up. I can only assume curtain airbags would have hindered this rescue and i wouldn't be here typing this. You may no different but thats my theory.

That's what happens if you buy cheap french $h1t. ;)

I can't find an argument against airbags, having a LOT of personal experience on a lot of different cars. When they deploy, they are only inflated for a split second. If they HAD have deployed on yours I doubt it would have made any difference to your egress as they'd only be a flappy bit of material, thinner than a towel within seconds. You'd just have a lot of talcum powder type dust on you.

Not totally surprised your's didn't fire as there probably weren't any sensors to account for hitting a kerb at such a speed as to flip a car! That's not normally accounted for when designing a car, but what on earth caused you to hit a kerb sideways with enough force to turn it over?! Unless it was a skid on a surface on which you were going too fast, bad driving, someone else hitting you, a blowout or other mechanical failure causing you to lose control or you were swerving to avoid something, I can't see how you did it as that's the only things i've ever come across in 11 years in the fire service.

It's always the same reasons, believe it or not.

Chappers the petrol has a 2.0 Turbo engine (MINE has 272 bhp and 333 lb ft /452 nm of torque,) not a Honda vtec engine, and I change up at 3000 rpm

Don't take this personally pal but you could have beaded seat covers, underwater camera and a towbar fitted. We are talking about a VRS not standard cars with lots of add-ons. I spent years of my youth trying to make a bog standard Clio RT into a williams until i eventually saw the light and went out and bought a real williams. and a cliosport 172 exclusive after that (limited 172 made) I happen to like the exclusivity of limited or special editions. The number plaque would be nice for resale values but its not a deal breaker. I'm not trying to say that the blackline will suit everyone clearly everyone has preferences when it comes to trim level. But surely you can see that for the right individual who like me this ticks all the boxes and doesn't care about all the silly options its a cracking deal.

Flawed argument in this case as the 1.8 TSI is quicker (acceleration-wise if not top speed) than the Diesel vRS.

Great thread. Good banter. Even a bit of Petrol vs Diesel chat thrown in. A great read! Love finding a thread like this after a few days away!

Not quite true. The 1.8tsi might have a quicker manufacturers 0-60 listed than the diesel vRS but in gear acceleration in normal driving will be quicker in the vRS. As I've stated on numerous occasions the overall performance of the cr vRS is somewhat lacking, certainly for what I wanted.

I'd probably go as far as to say that the 1.8 TSI is the pick of the VAG engines, all things considered though.

Love the way people have a go at other people's choices ..... If you don't like it don't buy it ..... I loved the specs of the blackline at the price so I bought one ( wouldn't have been able to afford leather or sat nav without )

Unless you quoted the wrong section of my post then none of it makes sense i didn't even mention any of your retorts.

I didn't even mention 1.8t tsi but seeing as you did i owned a 2002 silver Octavia vrs with said engine and its a cracking car. I Was sad to get

rid of it but its an aging vehicle now and i really don't see the relevance or why it flawed my arguement in your words.

Couldn't agree more ;)

No arguement here i was driving like a knob drifting the car sideways round a roundabout controling it on the throttle later found out the rear suspension had crapped out mid corner and i got snap back overstear the oposite direction and hit the kerb sideways on with both wheels at about 30mph. enough to lift the car into the air beleive it or not. I was young and i have learned from my mistakes now that im and old git i drive a sensible skoda ;)

Picked up my Blackline yesterday (finally) - bloody love it!!

Hi. I find the build quality on mine excellent. I have previously owned BMWs and a SEAT. The quality is far superior to SEAT and not that far off BMW to be honest (I find the interiors of BMWs really dull - and BMWs dull other than the 'M' versions)

I personally didn't go for a Blackline as I wanted a petrol (i.e THE proper vRS). I ended up buying an ex demo with almost every optional extra ticked (other than a sunroof) and am very pleased with it.

Good thread.

I've only had my Blackline for about a week and i'm loving it. It performs much better than any car I have owned before and the consumption is pretty good. I'm very impressed by the music system, especially the quality of the sound and the way it plays music from an SD card.

But there are a few niggles that I need to speak to the dealer about...

1) Fuel filler cover does not depress shut as it should. It can take up to about 10 attempts before it finally latches.

2) SatNav maps don't appear to be up-to-date - there is a major road in Derby that has been there for a couple of years now and the Nav does not know of it. I need to ask if an update is available.

3) Service schedule. According to the servive book I was given at hand-over my next service is due at 20,000 miles. That seems an awful long way away. And with such a long servive interval the 3years/30,000 miles of free servicing will only cover 1 service? That seem like a con.

4) Also It seems like an exercise in penny-pinching that there is no red triangle in the boot.

The lights on the Scout are pretty lousy, much improved after fitting Philips Extreme Vision bulbs.

With the handling try a few different tyre pressure settings. The Scout handles much better set up for full load.

The economy and performance should improve as the engine loosens up, but will be reduced due to the DPF.

Mark

Akaik, all octavias come with the fixed long service plan. I waited until I got to about 18,000 miles or so when it started blinking at me then got it changed to the short service plan, which is about every 10,000 miles (I think the code is either QG1 or QG2, with the long service is the latter, but it'll be in the list of codes in your logbook and on the stickers in the car itself). Dealer will programme this service schedule into the car's system for free. I figured it's designed to run until that point from the factory, but after that I had the same thought as you. Long service plan is on the assumption that you do quite a few miles and I THINK the oil used is slightly different. I only do about 10-12,000 a year so wanted more regular changes.

Oh, and don't remember them ever including a triangle, never had a car that does, but I suppose some do. Not including a spare wheel is what I thought was tight and glad I got one with mine before they started doing that!
