Condensation Problem

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Since we've been experiencing some cold weather recently my car has been getting real bad condensation on the inside of mainly the front and rear windscreen. I have checked the footwell and there are no damp wells and no leakages that I know of into the car.

Any advice or guidance? Do many others suffer from this?

I have the same issue and would be keen to resolve!

No Leaks, nothing damp left in the car, yada yada yada...

When was the cabin pollen filter last changed?

That can get damp and lead to moist air landing going straight onto the windscreen.

Mine was changed June during the service. It's really annoying when your leaving for work at 5:30am and then sit in it for ages waiting and waiting!

Problem here too.

Same problem here, front and back screens and rear side windows. Likely to do with having the heater on inside the car and the colder air on the outside causing condensation?

Check the pollen filter and the evaporator drain. Don't use recirc. If it's above 5°C, switch on the a/c to remove moisture from the air. If you use a cloth to wipe the windows and it gets soaking wet, take it out of the car to dry.

Check your scuttle drains, i had this problem, cleaned out the scuttle drains of leaves, changed the pollen filter and now the car doesnt steam up atall

Air conditioning fixed it for SWMBO. We had it serviced so it works and she leaves it on all the time, no more condensation problems. Before it was horrendous. But yes, she needed the pollen filter changing too as it was clogged.

I have this also!

Is it advised to use the air con to dry the air?? Also, where exactly is the pollen filter? Ive read under the glove box or somewhere? Do i need to remove the glove box?

I will try to replace pollen filter and clean the scuttle panel as others have advised.

Where is best to buy a pollen filter and roughly how much.

Also is there a guide on the changing of the pollen filter?

Thanks

tps, £13.78 bought one on friday!

Dont need a guide.

Under neath the glovebox right next to the bulkhead where your feet would sit, the is a rectagle shape plastic compartment with 2 clips holding it up, unclip the clips, pull the filter out replace the filter and push back up.

Mine was really bad last year...until I resealed the rear door cards and it made all the difference.

Just because the top of the carpet is dry doesn't mean you don't have water coming in.

I've also noticed that steamy windows does tend to be a VAG group trait - even brand new motors are all steamed up in the train station car park when it's really cold!

Random, mine was like this yesterday, took bloody ages to clear also. Iv felt the carpets and can't feel any damp.

Il check the pollen filter after work.

If you have aircon, then switch it on, mine clears in about 2-3 minutes.

DB.

Mines doing my sodding head in! Got in the car yesterday morning - late for work. Defrosted the outside got in and thought WTF, the inside of the windscreen was frozen!

Rear carpets aren't wet but I'm going to seal them regardless. Also going to check the pollen filter as its really annoying on every journey haha.

done all the usual , door seals, pollen filter, use aircon etc etc - I also keep a small dehumidifier in the car - get them in packs of 4/6 from ebay - cheap ! All of the above certainly solved the problem in mine - and in my previous 03 plate which is still used daily.

I have same problem, last night leaving work it took ages.

What about the stuff you can get from Halfords thats suppose to stop it

I use a microfibre sponge on mine, I find it doesn't leave any streaks.

Yep im also suffering the same issue. Going to reseal the doors and change filter etc. Obv another fabia common issue... :-s

All the above stuff,

but also.

Every winter,

I put a 250 g Margarine Tub of Rock Salt with the lid taped closed and some holes punched in it, one in the boot and one on the floor.

It does help absorbe moisture and reduce condensation.

(Or you can buy caravan moisture packs, Salt does for me, it last a season, much cheapness.)

Remove all extra stuff carried in the car,

metal stuff particulatly.

Obviously you need your emergency stuff, best put it in a Canoe/caving type Sealed Tote Bag or something.

Keep it all dry & help keep the car dry.

Clean up the windows inside, then apply 2 coatings of Fog X.

It works or at least helps in Damp Land Rovers etc,

& helps in all vehicles IMO.

I take damp mats in the house to dry over night, & in the coldest weather i have a B&Q 2 KW Greenhouse heater plugged into a Safe extension cable &

set at above the Frost setting, uses almost no energy over night even at pretty low temperature.

Wind Deflectors on the car is hand for the window open a few mm for the cable to go in.

JUst all cheap and simple stuff.

Silicone Spray around all the door rubbers to stop them freezing if the heater is not on in the car.

(Or for 'much cheapness', Tesco Tyre & Bumper Restorer £1.99)

george

I used to find that a "spongetex" mat on the dash stopped a lot of condensation. Also -when you get in - open a window a touch.

£1 tesco "essentials" dehumidifier box ...job done

keep off leather seats tho they drag moisture out of everything

The Mk2 Octy,s suffer with this too but the aircon helps alot.
