Is the Superb too big ?

Featured Replies

Which is exactly where the Octavia comes into the line up.

The point i was implying was that for me at least, the proportions of front seats/rear seats/loadspace are less practical than those of the Octavia (which was conceived before the Superb). Absolute space may be more which is why I'm considering it, but I wouldn't miss the excess kneespace that coud have been lost to make a long car 6“ shorter and easier to park.

I also drive an A6 Avant which is close in size to the Superb, but which has more conventional internal proportions. The Superb seems a sensible compromise for me, but those proportions surprised me at test drive (I'm glad I took one), and detract from an otherwise excellent package. Its a bit like the hooker in Total Recall whose "spare" is interesting whilst not strictly necessary, and could be considered a disadvantage in tight spaces.

Jeeves if it had a sliding rear seat it would give you more options. Maybe the next Superb ?

That had crossed my mind too, but wouldn't make it into production in time for me as I'm looking to change early next year.

Just noticed how bad my spelling was in last night's post.

Can't comment on the Mark II, but I went from an Octavia to a Mark I Superb and must admit I was a bit worried about the size, but I got used to it pretty quickly and now it doesn't feel big at all. In fact I'm thinking of trading it in for a new Bentley Flying Spur :giggle:

I wish…

You could always try a VW Phaeton - I think they are the same car underneath...

I owned a Vauxhall Insignia for 18 months back in 09 and it is the same length (give or take the odd cm) as the Superb. It's looks small compared to it though! The rear leg space was comparable to an Octavia and the boat was only marginally bigger. I really don't know how Skoda have packed so much more interior space in the same length of car.

Still, wouldn't like to park either car without rear sensors as rear visibility is shocking on both.

I could get the Insignia in a garage but the rear bumper had to touch the wall and the garage door would touch the front bumper!!

Only had mine for 3 days now which I'm using as a executive hire car and never found it to cause and problems. It seams like it has a tighter turning circle that the vRS Octavia.

I was trying to get my superb estate out of a Brighton hotel underground car park yesterday but due to its length there was no way it was getting round the 90 degree turn at the end of the row and miss the concrete pillar on the right hand side. I ended up reversing back down the row, back into my parking space then went in the opposite direction where there was more space to turn the corner. This is the only time I have wished I had a shorter car!

Mine is PITA in the works multi-story because of its length, on the other hand when doing "tip" runs more space is always be useful.

The size is no problem as far as I am concerned ( the largest car I have ever owned which WAS a handful, a Jag MK V11M manual ) and what no-one has mentioned in this thread is the added safety provided by a larger car. , especially on the motorway. Late last year I was whacked up the backside by a drunken/ drugged driver who was travelling at 80mph at least , me circa 60-5mph as not long on the m/way, and I was not knocked off course ( he lost control ) and I put my stability down to the size of the Superb Estate, damage to which was unbelievably minimal. Had I been in a small car I think I would have been in the central barrier instead of him.?.

I have had no problems with my Saab 9-5 (3.3 cm shorter and 2.4 cm narrower) but I will let you know on the 5th Dec when I get my Elegance :sun:
