The muddy look...

Featured Replies

It is hard to find anywhere to go and get the beast dirty (apart from wales as Graham says) The lane I went down had signs everywhere, bridal path to Helsby, it is only because I know the farmer that I knew the lane is actually ok for driving down and it was a different farmer who put the signs up!

I am sure there are enough of us who would go for an off road day out, I have emailed Land Rover at Speke to ask if there off road course is open to anything other than Land Rovers, lets see what I get back from them.

Beware!

Before you drive any route you should check the legality of it first, even if you know the owner. Also note that if the farmer is a tenant he cannot give you permission to use it.

I am able to check most RoW legalities through various methods and am always willing to check, but request that you send any map references (in the format AB 123 456) by PM.

And LR will allow no-one but their own vehicles to use the LR Experience tracks. The CSMA are celebrating their 90th Anniversary this year and are holding a large gathering for a weekend at Gaydon and our 4x4 Section asked if they could use the LRE track there and were roundly rebuffed!

And to be honest the track at Speke would not be suitable for a Yeti.

I'm looking forward to a good winter (sorry if that's a pain for you who get cut off) and getting the most out of the Yeti's 4x4 grip.

Living in London it's wasted for 99% of the time, but I'd still order a 4x4 for the few days you might need it, and the extra grip it gives you in the wet.

I did make the most of it in a muddy car park - a field in Cornwall last Xmas, the rear wheel drive BMWs and so on were doing the sideways crab like crawl, no forward movement, while my Yeti confidently and smugly made them look silly.

It looks great with some mud, and I swear that caked mud in the wheel arches makes the road noise less obtrusive.

Dont forget some of that grip comes from the use of correct tyres for the conditions

Do you have winter tyres?

or

All Season?

David Mitchell of Landcraft 4x4 fame might have one of his less severe off-road routes that's suitable for the Yeti in the Bala area. I'll ask him & see what he says if people are interested.
