UK 16" Special Build Club - Membership Closed?

Featured Replies

It seems that the delivery of ATCO's SM last month brought us to the end of the known 'special build' orders. If so, the total membership of the UK 16" Special Build Club would stand at eight, as follows:

The Plumber 110 / El / Man / 4 x 4 / Candy White

Expatman 1.2 / El / DSG / 2WD / Lava Blue

SnowYeti 1.2 / El / Man / 2WD / White

Runswick Stag 110 / SE / Man / 4 x 4 / Steel Grey

Nokiauk 140 / El / DSG / 4 x 4 / Steel Grey

Brijo 140 / SE / DSG / 4 x 4 / Muscovado

Vegit8 140 / El / Man / 4 x 4 / Steel Grey

ATCO 140 / El / Man / 4 x 4 / Steel Grey

Hirundo's 140 / SE / Man / Regency Green apparently lives in Estonia, so Associate Membership, perhaps?!

Are these details correct? And are there any other candidates out there? There hasn't been any hint of new orders later than ATCO's so, if this is in fact the final list, now's the time to propose a vote of thanks to TP for making it possible.

Personally, I have absolutely no regrets over following his lead; the 16" wheels are doing the job I needed them for.

Hear Hear! And thanks also to all those who provided advice and support which enabled me to join the Club - the tide (with SUK) turned when I was able to quote Vegit8's order number as a precedent. I'm also in total agreement with your last statement and am 100% delighted with the 16" wheel/215/60 tyre combination. Thanks TP, thanks one and all.

If you agree on Associate Membership for overseas 16" Yeti owners then please count me in! :hi:

I have a 1.8TSI 4x4 on order due to be delivered in late December, on 16" Moon alloys. From what I gather from the discussions this is actually easier to achieve here in Greece, as two of the three trim levels available come with 16" as standard. I have ordered the medium spec ("Ambition") with a few extras, avoiding the top spec ("Experience") mostly due to the 17" that come as standard. Still, had I gone for the Experience I was given the option of speccing 16" but without getting a discount. As this also included several bits of kit I was not really interested in, I decided against it and instead spent the extra €€€ on speccing up an "Ambition" with the bits I wanted.

Thanks to all of you for all the useful info!

Cheers,

George

Many thanks to TP who pioneered the way. It is interesting to read the views of forum members who have fitted 16" winter wheels/tyres and extoll the benefits of the better ride with 16" wheels over their summer 17" wheels.

Can we still order 16" wheeled Yeti's through Skoda? I, for one, would not want a Yeti shod with 17" wheels, the harsher ride is not compatible with my wife's problem back.

If someone had to start again in 12 months time (say) then it may well be more difficult.

Having covered more than 700 miles in our car now I am totally convinced we made the right choice for us. The car is super smooth over the potholes that masquerade as a road surface in deepest Dorset, but can still move quite quickly and sprightly when its given a chance.

Who am I to say 'No'? Any objections anywhere?

On a different tack, though, members might give a thought to fallen comrades :( . Soupafly was one who managed to get 16" approval but had to pull out in June for medical reasons. There was another, whose name slips my mind (like so much nowadays); I seem to remember that he had an order in for an ?Audi at the same time, which became available unexpectedly early.

Yes it was Threeshoes, his order went in a few days ahead of mine, and SUK were telling him no at the same time they were telling me yes. It was all very odd.

Thanks for the reminder. Yes, he pulled out in May when his X1 came through. I wonder what happened to these two 'orphans'? Probably the orders were just reconfigured to conventional feet.

I'd guess that depending on the early development of the young' cub' the development could be altered to suite the needs of other adoptive parents, Maybe those that have gone close to full term would be available to dealers for demo or showroom till they are adopted by locals....

Didn't appreciate there were eight Monsters of the UKSB lineage B)

Well done to all for breaching the SUK barricade :giggle:

Shame we are so spread out around the country; make a great picture the eight Yeti's that Skoda UK didn't want built

Also :'( to hear two didn't make it; wish their prospective owners well if they pick up on this thread.

Oh I think there was another that didn't get through; SUK only gave the approval when the build was past the lockout stage, not sure if intentional :wonder:

Regards to all,

TP

Hmmm.. How about a 'virtual' meet? A good pic of each, here on this thread? A couple of us haven't been online recently but might respond to PMs :hi:

I tried to get 16" when ordering my new 170 4x4 elegance.

The salesman just said NO, even when I told him that SUK were allowing the modification.

Erubras wheels were an option, but with no picture available in the brochure (just the 3D online configurator), and that both the salesman and my wife wanted 'flash' wheels I lost my argument that the moon allows were easier to clean.

The salesman said that you have to have the wheels to match the car specification otherwise how would other people know which spec level of car you had brought :wall:

Thats a load of bollards.

You can still get your order changed as long as you have not been given a confirmed build week, that's if you want to of course.

It was never a thing that the dealer could do.

If you need any assistance with dealing with SUK drop me a PM

That's an offer you shouldn't pass up!!

(I note belatedly that your wife wants 'flash' wheels. You're probably sunk  )

The abominable skoda yeti arrived in April 12 with Moon Alloys, delayed from December 11 following several long email exchanges with SUK who eventually agreed to put the 16s on. Very glad having ordered my winter tyres which are cheaper and having not scuffed the alloys as yet due to the extra sidewall. You may find that expressing a want to "cancel" your order with SUK assists with speeding up the willingness to change, if not the delivery time.

Very interesting quote above about knowing what spec car you have, mine appeared on the receipt and was well defined by both the extra toys and the overall cost! Even more entertaining was my very direct feedback to my long serving Mini dealer about one of their newer members of staff describing the car of the year as a "skip" and that attitude being part of the reason that after 10 years Of Mini ownership I would not be buying a Countryman.

I have added UK order and delivery months, too, before they get lost in the mists of time, because of the differing delivery delays. Perhaps TP and My Mini me would let me know theirs?

Ordered 5th November 2010, built week 14/11 (week begining 5th April) MY11 and delivered 30th April.

Regards,

TP

Hmm how interesting, that is also quite expensive, that's barely £200 off RRP.

Given that delivery times are now half what they were 12 mths ago, I think a decent dealer discount would be worth the wait. I would be looking to get £2.5k off that price.

I'm thinking it must be a cancelled special order, but as you say more proof that its not impossible, good spot!

Soupafly and Threeshoes, who had to pull out of orders, may well have left UK16"Specials due during the autumn. I'll try to go back and find details of their specs.
