Four Years On ....

Featured Replies

Coming up to the fourth anniversary of buying my Superb II Rosso Brunello 170CR Elegance, I thought that it had kept pretty well when I washed it today, so I took these:

I was trying not to take up too much room when I sized the pics, but I may have over-done it! "View image in new window" helps a bit.

My best ever (brim-to-brim) tankful was 48.96mpg, the worst was 37.19mpg, so the overall average over 22,500 miles is 41.46mpg. For the size, comfort and features, I'm well pleased with that.

I've got as far as I can go now with firmware updates, as the Columbus is a "B" unit, so I can't use the 4-series firmware. I added voice control to the Columbus, but aside from that it's still in original spec. Thinking about adding a steering wheel with paddles, but that's only because my other car has them. :)

Looks in terrible condition Ray, what have you been playing at!!

Kidding, looks in good shape, I presume it was new to you?

Any issues to talk of?

Yes, it was purchased new. The only problems I've had involved the replacement of two sensors. The first was an under-dash ECU, which went haywire, telling me to check my bulbs, etc. No problems since replacement, well within warranty. The other sensor was for the DPF. I had a couple of DPF warnings, then a permanent light on. New sensor fixed the problem. Not in warranty, but it wasn't a new DPF either! :)

hi Ray

looking good a credit to you,

maybe we should have a trip to shark tuning and have paddles fitted and a remap? i could also have my g/box adjusted as well so the bloody thing doesn't change up so early. ps doesn't look as good as my estate??

sorry ray.

Very nice, Definitely my favourite Superb colour.

Rosso Brunello / Ivory leather is IMO certainly the best colour combination if you can keep them clean, seen a few filthy Rosso Brunello’s on the motorway and boy what a let down, they need to be spotless to let the pearlescent shine though

Mine is only 4 months old and it doesn't look as good as that.

Well done, Ray.

That is exactly the definition of timeless design. It's out on the roads for 4 years and same excitement around it. That's why there is no hurry for a facelift or new model.

Ray, my unit is a mid-2009 and, despite what I was told on countless forums, I jumped straight from 1-series firmware to 4-series. The upgrade was completely painless and I've had no problems whatsoever. I've also got V9 maps on now.

Looks Superb

Mine is a year earlier than yours. I've tried the v4 firmware, but it doesn't fly because - as I said - I've got a 'B' head unit and I suppose you've got a 'C'

Ray

@Ned, where did you get the v9 maps from please?

Friendly dealer for free

Not so friendly dealer about 150 notes

Not condoning it, but you can also get it online via google search. You'll need a dual layer DVD writer. If you don't have the later, you can buy them off eBay or about 20 notes

The moderators - rightly, probably - won't allow any reference other than to official sources, so I'll try to answer entirely through emoticons:

What was the under dash ecu? Mine gives me dodgy bulb warning every now and then when nothing is wrong??

I wasn't told what the ECU was called, or even what it was for, but I do know that it was behind the right-hand side of the dash and fairly straightforward to get at. It had to come from the factory as there wasn't a replacement in the UK. The dealer was sent a special piece of wiring to do a test before a replacement was ordered, so I'm guessing that the unit isn't cheap!

Looks really good. That colour always does when well looked after. It's good to see an all ivory interior. Mine has the mixture of black and white (the chessboard effect)

Hope people don't get onto the back of your car with muddy feet!!!
