Best settings for the Swing Stereo

Featured Replies

Does anybody have a list of what the best settings are for the Swing stereo ? By that i mean for SQ after trying all different combinations. I am about to set it up tomorrow and although i know it will not sound like a Macintosh unit i want to get the best i can out of it. Ta

Personally I like +2 bass, +4 mid and +6 trebble with loudness switched on. Sounds pretty crap no matter what you do though, find anything much above volume 12 just rattles the doors. Its things like that which make you realise where the cost savings have gone; MK6 Golf company car I've just given up was loud, bassy and rattle free and had pretty much identical headunit and (I suspect) speakers. Its not the kit its how its installed; poor plastics and sound deadnening sadly do for the poor old fabia

best setting IMHO, is with AC/DC on, turned up to LOUD. HTH :D

I found that installing a small active subwoofer in the boot is the best solution. Turn the bass down to -8 (leave midrange and treble at 0) to stop the doors from rattling and set up the subwoofer to compensate for that, so you get the bass only from the subwoofer and not the speakers. With this setup I'm able to crank it up REALLY loud, and yet I don't get any rattles. I wouldn't go overboard with a crazy amount of watts though, a 350W Alpine SWD-2000 did the job for me. Doesn't take much space in the boot either.

I dont know if i didnt try the car enough but when i went to for a test drive with a 1.2 TSI elegance. I tried the stereo and cranked up the bass but i didnt hear any rattling at all in the doors. Could it be something that they solved in the 2012-2013 years or was it just that i didnt try it long enough?

Good idea on the active sub there, i know you can wire them in at speaker line level, and i know that taking the bass away from the speakers would free them up a bit and could stop any rattles that tend to be caused by distorted bass.

Yeap, speaker line output does the job. Now, I don't know about the Swing, but the Dance in my pre-facelift fabia does not have an external amp switch, so I just wrapped my amplifier switch wire around the ABS fuse. That way, the subwoofer comes on when I turn the ignition on, and works regardless of the engine running or not. This may sound odd, but it works, I've had it nearly 3 years like that, never had any problems or any fault codes or anything.

The only negative thing is that I had to drill a small hole on the bulkhead to pass the power cable to the battery. And another one under the rear seat to fix the earth wire with a little nut and bolt. I just couldn't find any gap or hole or grommet on the bulkhead, so had no choice. Same for the earth wire, I could use one of the bolts for the seatbelt buckles, but I didn't have a torque wrench at that time to tighten it back properly.

Anyhow, I believe the speakers are the same for pre- and post-facelift fabias, and it's just unavoidable. Sooner or later, certain low frequencies will cause the door cards to rattle. I've had facelifted fabias as courtesy cars and they're just as bad as mine.

I find the sound from the Swing excellent, I set it at -4 treble, +2 mid, 0 bass and I like my music (jazz and classical) pretty loud. I have my mp3 player volume set at maximum, then usually turn Swing volume up to 12 or thereabouts.

I must admit to finding it not too bad now i have had the car a week or so..... i have not plugged my Iphone into it yet but will do soon.

In my review thread I gave the standard stereo a good workout and came a happy customer on the other side. What I found is that there is no single good setup and it needs changed depending on the music you are listening to. I also did not find any rattles, "buzzing" or other distortions coming from the panel work or plastics.

What I found was excessive tyre noise at all speeds - doors have next to nothing sound insulation I am afraid...

I am glad you are enjoying your car Hudson1, why don't you do a proper review thread, I do not think we had one written by one of our female members (waits for a deluge of links lol).... recently ;)

The best settings are what your ears tell you for the type of listening you do. Mine's on treble - 2 bass +2 and loudness off.

seriously depends on music, i dont think the standard speakers are too bad imo
