Has anyone had a problem with....

.....locking wheelstud key on the Fabia Vrs Mk2. As the locking key is different to the Mk1 key, I was wondering if anyone has had any probs with it sheering as its made of alloy and a totally different design altogether to the Mk1's. One of my colleagues at work has a Volvo S40 with same style key and he knows of other owners keys that have just sheered when trying to remove the wheel stud. Quite worrying if stuck at side of road with puncture and no way of removing wheel, considering doing away with wheelstud key and replacing with ordinary stud.

Incidentally I removed all four wheels and greased the hub contact behind wheel with copper grease and was not confident with the wheelstud key as I was on my Fabia Vrs Mk1.

Any thoughts please.

I am happy enough with it. If the wheel nut is correctly tightened and not over tightened it should be fine.

ie not made of chocolate.

It is a Forged steel one in my kit.

Anyone would be well advised while in the comfort of their own time to check they can get the nuts & the wheels off

& that the Locking Nut is not over tight. IMO.

Check the tweezers are there.

Fair point on the tightness of the stud George I always use a torque wrench tightened to the manufacurers spec.

No problems here either; change wheels over twice a year with switching to and from winters.

Didn't have any problems with mine.

Although tweezers were missing from my kit and dealer didn't care when I asked them where they were :(

Fair enough guys, thanks for all your feedback.

I am 79 and pretty weedy.

Last month I had a severe puncture wrecking the tyre and decided to change the wheel myself.

The Locking Adaptor fitted well and I was able to remove all the nuts quite easily with this and the spanner provided.

The wheel was hard to get off but I managed it and soon had the proper wheel spare on. Very glad that I had specified this.

I assume the type you've got is the same as my vRS which is the type made by a US company McGard.

You are correct that these can have their problems,I've certainly had them in the past on an Audi TT with one having to be drilled/ground off.

These sort are better in that they have a deeper location so are not as prone to slip off under load, which,if it's happened a few times, can wear off the edges so they can then fail to shift a stubborn bolt, slipping off and failing to loosen it:

Wouldn't break the bank to get a set of these.

Mines sheared really easily. Got replacement ones from skoda for the old design for about £30 which was ok I guess once they took the stuck bolts out too.

Unfortuantly the dust covers dont fir on the locking bolts now.
