Hi, a couple of oil-related questions....

Question # 1

I've just purchased a Superb 1.4Tsi, trading in a Ford Mondeo. Having recently taken advantage of a very low clearance price in Tesco, I have 28 litres of Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A1 (the Ford-specific formulation), not to mention 3 x 5litres of Ford Formula F 5W30. It is going to take a long time to use this oil up in my wife's Focus 1.6 petrol (approx. 8K miles / 1 service) a year.

What are the implications of using this oil in the 1.4TSi? Although presently set to variable servicing, I plan to move to fixed servicing (when I get my VCDS cable), and possibly an intermediate oil change - I'm planning to keep the car a long time.

Question # 2

I have just purchased, in Tesco, 4 1 litre bottles of Castrol Edge 5w40. This oil is listed as 502.00/505.00. Is this oil suitable for my 1.4Tsi on fixed intervals?

#1 you can probably answer for yourself; look on the side of a can for a VAG 500 series oil specification code.

Also, to switch from variable to fixed service, you just have to do an oil change, and reset the service indicator using the stalk. You only need VCDS to switch from fixed to variable.

No VAG figures on the label, but I was guessing that since it was their Ford-specific product, they wouldn't list the other specifications that it also met.....May be I just need to put it on eBay!

re. the Edge 5w40 502 / 505, can anyone confirm that this is OK. Am I correct in thinking that 504 / 507 is only needed for variable service intervals?

Yeah, Steve, I've heard that OCD can be a problem with this engine - bought it specifically to match my personality !

502.00 is fine for petrol on fixed.
