Side light removal ?

Featured Replies

Ok I managed to remove head light and change dipped lamp but can anyone let me know how the side light comes out which is in the Same area ??

It's a right bugger to get the sidelights out. Eventually I lost patience :@ and I grabbed the cables with one hand, and I pushed a long thin screwdriver against one of the tabs. When I pulled the cables, the connector popped out on that side. Little jab of the screwdriver at the other tab, and it came right out.

Needle nosed pliers just seemed to slip off, I managed to almost break one connector while trying it out. Mind you, pulling the cables is just as bad...I used that method quite a few times now, once you get the hang of it, it's easy.

ok i have tried to squeeze the 2 clips with long nose pliers and pull but no joy. there is a black plastic box that is slightly in the way maybe i need to remove this first ????

It is not a direct pull, you will have to release the clamps/levers on the Connectors first before pulling the Bulb out. Place the Pliers on the Clamps of the Connector, press them and then pull, the Bulb will come out easily.

Thanks , at work till 10pm now but will try tomorrow morning :)

Better still, remove the headlight completely (takes seconds) and do it sat at the kitchen table!

Heads up though. If putting in led bulbs be aware of the polarity before putting the bulb back it's holder. If its the wrong way roun you will have to take everything out again. I learnt this the hard way. Also I went down the needle nose pliers. Grab the clasps and go or the thing a wiggle, twist and pull and it should pop out. You can also stick your finger in the indicators and feel the sidelight to five it a further push.

Seriously, were skoda taking the **** when they designed this headlight.

Rant over......,

I don't think so, this is why they spent the extra money on designing a set of rails and a quick release system that allows you to completely remove the whole headlight assembly in seconds.

It then doesn't matter if you have hands the size of the Incredible Hulk's.

tbh its quite easy in comparison to some.

The laguna from 2002 onwards needs the bumper off to replace a headlight bulb. Even my 1998 civic needs the bumper taken off to remove the headlight so i think its very good design, just not easy to replace the bulbs them selves

I can pull the headlights out piece of cake. I can change main, dipped and indicators with ease. Can I get these sidelights out? Can I (insert word of your choice here - I'm going for 'hell')

Oh, so they aren't the same push fit as the W3W's in the rear clusters then :giggle:

I wonder what the manual says (off to check...)

The manual's no good then!

Removing the light bulb for the parking light

– Switch the ignition and all lights off.

– Remove the headlight Þ page 222.

– Remove the protective cap Þ page 221, fig. 192.

– Remove the socket Þ fig. 195.

– Take the faulty bulb out of the fixture and insert a new one.

– Insert the protective cap.

The manual:

a) doesn't seem to mention sidelights

B) seems to show a picture of a very different unit to the one I have in my hands.

I've now had a screwdriver down the side to release one tab (the far one) and some tweezers down there to release the other side, whilst pulling fairly hard on it with some needle nose pliers. All that's happened is the far side clip now stays in, as if it were coming out, but I still can't get the other one to release......

It is abit awkward the first time you do it but gets easy, take the indicator out for extra room. I use two small flat headed 4 inch long screw drivers (DRAPER pack of 6 from ASDA) and dig them hard into the two tabs on the bulb holder and keep prising the bulb holder upwards its quite long so keep going and it will eventually come out far enough to just give it a gentle pull out by the wiring. Brutle and the holder tabs will be left scratched but it works and after the first time it gets much easier.

The indicator on my headlights is in a separate chamber, so taking it out wont make it any easier......

even better...

I've snapped off the retaining lugs for the sidelight bulb holders before putting them back into the headlight unit. The bulb holder still holds securely, but only needs a straight pull rather than messing about with tweezers or long nose pliers to change the bulb next time. Makes life much easier in the future.

I did the same snap the dam lugs off and its easy after

I recently had a front sidelight go on my 2010 skoda superb

elegance.

Firstly remove the circular rubber access cover. They are a push pull fit bulb.Any motoring outlet sell them.

you will need small hands to prise the bulb/holder out.

if you can get a good purchase on the holder a sharp tug will remove.

do not tug on the wires.

when you put it back don’t push it all they way in or you will have trouble the next time you want to take it out.

hope that helps

I wonder how much a dealer charges to change a sidelight bulb?

Halfords £15 and that doesn’t include the bulb.

its a two minute job soon as you get some leverage on the bulb holder
