Which Remap for my vRS ?

Featured Replies

As title really.

Car is at the moment a daily runabout but soon it will become more track focused and eventually will more than likely become track only.

At the moment there are no performance mods done to the car (which is VERY unlike me, as thats normally the first thing I do with a new car).

My list of parts will be:

Exhaust (turbo back)

FMIC

Fuel pump (if it's required)

Air filter

So who's remap is best and why ?

AMD

APR

Custom Code

Ipro /O.CT

Revo

R-tech

Shark

Or any others that I may have missed ?

When I had my Evo's I used to do my own mapping, but if i'm honest at the moment I don't have the time to put into learning a new system and getting to grips with with all the various tables and maps that need adjusting, and for now, as i'm not going to be going mad with the mods and don't need every last gee gee out of the car, a generic map will do me I think.

Search mate.

Rtech or shark prob best atm

Shark all the way.... but i am biased as i have just become a dealer for them ;)

not heard bad word about shark at all

taking into account your current requirements, and perhaps expectations based on previous cars, i would suggest rtech, i have a map on my current vrs and its nice and smooth, plus as you will see on here and other forums, they get top top reviews, and are true custom mappers, though you can obviously go for a semi/stock generic map. Nick writes his own maps as far as i know, unlike most uk mappers. Failing that go to shark, clive in the south east is an established member, and has mapped one of my cars, thumbs up too!

Another vote for R-tech here, Nic is a legend on the 1.8t and customer service is immense.

Ive heard good reviews about r-tech

Thanks for the reply's so far guys.

I guess I might have worded this wrongly, maybe I should have asked whats the difference between the various company's remaps (obviously comparing like for like, so AMD stage1 against Revo stage1 etc).

I can't imagine that all stage 1 remaps are the same, some must be better than others, and thats what I want to know really tbh, which is best and why is it better.

I am not fussed about map switching (hell on my Evo I had 2 maps and 3 boost settings and it only stayed on 1 map and high boost, because if I wanted to go slower I used less throttle :D).

most stage ones..are generic maps, some good and some bad, that allow for certain variables, revo are not that adaptable iirc, and Amd stage one is a rework alongside the revo map. Very few stage one mappers tune the map to suit properly (semi custom map) rtech are one of those..

R-tech or shark

I'm in the same boat at the moment, R-Tech has won my vote, every time I think about it I just think that if I don't go to R-Tech ill regret it :)

Shark!

R-tech or shark

if cn tuning say rtech (and they do shark maps) it has to be rtech!

No point being biased shark maps that I sell often sell them selves as people like shark and hence no need for us to hard sell

So out of the option of the list it them two ;-)

R-tech will do you a 'custom' map for £200! And theres nobody that can even match that anywhere close

Done on a dyno with before and after graphs!

thats the thing...custom for £200..you can't go wrong! unlike a cak generic map for more from some of the other 'vag specialists' out there!

r-tech mate, then you can have launch control, linear throttle, flat shift and left foot braking all mapped into a full custom file! thats what mine is getting next week anyway!!! just make sure the car is tip top before you take it up there. they are also very thorough on the cars health check too, they may even tell you of faults you did'nt even know existed!!

Ok thanks for the comments and recommendations then guys.

Looks like i'll be contacting R-tech at some point then if there doing custom remaps with extra's for £200 :)

There's an awful lot to be said for linear throttle. After driving the wife's 335, which does exactly what you want, when you want, I tend to make a bit of a pr!ck of myself driving the vRS afterwards. If I want to pull away a bit quickly, the throttle pedal usually gives me a LOT more than I really want from it. My fault, I know, but I really do hate the curve on the throttle. In fact, it's probably the worst thing I can cite about my car.

Flat shift keep the foot planted on accelerator when changing gear

Can be fun, and will help on the drag strip, although your gearbox might not be keen on it lol :D

gearbox will be fine the ecu just does what you would normally do and come off throttle while the clutch is deprest

very hard to get used to and 99% of the time you will lift off lol

I never bothered with it on the Evo, they don't like it if you try and shift too quickly, which is what tends to happen if you have flat shift.

you'll have to pay extra for the launch control and other bits mate, the prices are on the rtech website, for all 4 i think its about £200 odd on top of the map....still well worth it though mate....you wont get a better mapped 20v anywhere!!!
