While i thought that it was a long shot at that point on a Saturday it was more the having to ask for parts twice for it to sink in & the sales guy to give me the parts dept's number.

Mind you local VW garage had someone there that could look up ETKA and find parts bins there when the garage was open unless it was a sunday

To be honest EPC like etka are simple to use the main skill when it comes to parts is know what to look for and inturpting the information on the screen correctly, many think being a parts advisor is a piece of ****, when really it can be quite difficult.

Think yourself lucky in the commercial vehilce sector, a dealer closes from 12pm sat till 6am on monday morning not even a salesman would be on site ;)

I see no reason why a dealership can sell a car two minutes before closing for weekend but cannot sell screws. Paradox!

Two different departments that have different opening hours prehaps.

At the parts department would/should be locked up

It's really sad to see that, when one individual here takes some of their precious time to write a lengthy post to educate us all about customer service, all they get in return is they get mocked by a select few... Nice!

When you write pompous twaddle not relevant to the point you are rightly mocked.

Any idiot should know that the sales side of dealerships have different opening times to the parts side, and the salesmen have no parts knowledge, just as parts people have no knowledge of details involved in car sales(.e.g.Finance options).

Would you go to your doctors and, finding he wasn't there, expect the cleaner to advise you on your medical condition?

As far as I can see the salesman was as polite as could be expected given that he was asked a silly question.

In my experience, when you enter a dealership, the first person to greet you is a salesman, not a parts adviser. So, you tell the salesman what you're after and they normally have the decency to direct you straight away to the most suitable person, if they can't handle your query. The only idiot in this case is the salesman who apparently did not have the intellectual capacity to understand that the original poster was after the parts that were missing. Regardless of what time it was, he acted like a pr!ck when he responded "So how can i help you?".

+1. This is not really a serious thread, hasn't been from the start so far as I can see. No need for any "education" lol ;-)

I do understand this, it's the same in my Country too but still is a paradox. It's like calling for an ambulance which have a driver but no paramedics. Useless and paradox.

A dealership for me as a customer is nothing but a unit. If they need more personel let hire some (and hit unemployment too) or else let close the unit at the same time.

You do not hire staff to staff a Parts Department from 4pm to 5pm on a Saturday if you have found that you were never having customers

or very very few at the Parts desk in all the years you used to be open untill 5pm.

You can hardly have 2 people @ a cost of at least £15 for each extra hour on a Saturday,

for the potential sale of 3 self tappers.

Actually nothing against Greece because we are also just as skint,

& we also need the additional Employment,

We should have an Engineering Works at every Dealership ready to manufacture parts as required 24 hours a day.

Fully Staffed ready to jump to it.

Actually if we had let Germany run the world, we might already of had this.

&

we should change all the National Attitudes so that nobody takes the Pith.

Sorry George, you misanderstood me. As for hire, simply don't know the proper word to express my opinion. I don't mean hire for one or two hours, I mean full shift (or how you call it). It has nothing to do with Greece or any other country.

Also I don't care what or how many working hours a dealership is open. I just want these hours every department to be available. Think of a hospital to have a surgeon but not a streacher bearer to bring patient to operation's room.

It is the same to an open Super Market missing its cashiers.

No its OK, i think i understood.

'Hire' is much like paying someone with cash money for another hour of the working week..

If they work that hour they need to be off some other time or maybe if they are lucky they are on 'Time & a Half on a Saturday.

So instead of 1 or 2 people working that hour for 1 hours pay, its is for 1 1/2 hours pay or time in leu.

Great for 'Customer Service' if there are Customers, but just a waste of Resources/money if there are seldom Customers for Parts in that hour,

or as it often is the whole Saturday Afternoon.

Here the Parts Counter during the week is often getting delivered & Ordering & Supplying parts, these going out on the Parts Van & the parts van is not going out on a Saturday Afternoon because the Garages & Workshops are closed.

Deliveries are not coming in

Saturday, = Shopping, household and new used cars, etc, DIY, Sport, watching Sport etc.

Sunday = Shopping, DIY, BUying cars, fixing the car etc. = no car parts available, so go to 'Halfords' only place open, pay too much so need to do 'Overtime' on a Saturday.

DOH caught myself out there..

RE, Doctors & Hospitals.,

Our NHS Consultants & Surgeons need days off on Thursdays & Fridays to go Golfing,

or

to Use the National Health Trust Operating Theatres for Private Health Care Operations.

Because there are no NHS surgeons operating on Thursdays & Fridays in NHS theatres..

'maybe thats just an Urban Myth', but not in this area.

Yes indeed, but if you (not you in in personal) provide full services during your working hours (even if they are only 3 hours daily) then maybe customers start coming back again. Of course as you wrote above we live in difficult times (generally not only Greeks)

2.) I really don' t know how your NHS is organized, but still you know that every day except Thursdays and Fridays, all personell is there no matter to which department they belong.

There is something telling me that I agree with you, just looking the same issue from an other point of view. Thank you for sharing thoughts with me.

Honestly, all that $hitstorm for 3 self tappers? If I was a salesman in such situation and no other clients around just before the closing time I'd simply go to the Servicing Desk to at least check If could get anywhere with the customer and send him home happy, but that's me I suppose :).

Sure, the Servicing Dept was closed and if the salesman was a new recruit not knowing his ropes all he needed to say was " I understand your problem Sir. Normally it would be a matter of minutes but the Servicing Desk closes at 3pm on Saturdays and I am not able to access it. I am sorry! Could you please leave me your details and we will post you those screws on Monday so won't have to drive all the way down here for 3 screws. I hope it doesn't cause you too much of an inconvenience.

On the other hand a shrewd customer would simply call the dealership and ask before driving there :D.

One'd have be rather desperate as the same should be give at no cost from the dealership?

As with everything, want now then pay for it :) or wait for the stuff and get it for free.

Halfords ? Garage on the corner ? Screwfix ?

At the risk of prolonging this thread (which is all rather less than earth shattering) I've just fitted mudflaps all round to my vRS,Skoda accessory ones, and a very good fit they are too,and if the screws came out I'd assume I hadn't fitted them correctly so that would be my fault.

On the other hand,if the OP had them fitted by the dealer then he's got cause for complaint...as long as he's not hit a kerb and knocked out the screws....

Isn't such a simple matter so complex.?...definitely my last post on the subject

Agreed

Well thats 5 min of my life i`ll not get back.

Nice one George where do you live? as a theatre tech who is married to a consultant I can asure you that what you say above is a load of BS. Stop talking crap about stuff you know nothing about !! Stick to cars.

I bet the salesman couldn't do enough for him when he was buying the car though.

If I was the salesman, on commission, I would have had a quick shufti to see what was holding my rival salespersons desk together..... :giggle:

Lukeskywalker,

there will no doubt be somebody that knows Tayside Hospitals & Ninewells Hospital, Fernbrae etc

& if they confirm i am talking BS, then fair enough.

I am speaking from my experience as a long term NHS Customer & also as a relation to staff/employees.

Halfords ? Garage on the corner ? Screwfix ?

Costcutter? Polski Sklep? Mr Singh's Newsagents? Bargain Booze? You could get the nuts/bolts/screws for a mudflap at any of these.

This thread is genius

Big fan myself!

Never been to those particular hospitals but to say there are no surgeons in the NHS doing any surgery on a Thursday or Friday is abit of a daft statement tbh. As above stick to cars George, I think you know more about them than how our healthservice works! ;-)
