No lights!

Featured Replies

I need a little help, i tried to change my tail light yesterday on my mk1 fabia vrs and had some problems, now my left hand side tail light, brake light and side light dont work.. Indicators work and reverse light works.. ive tried the bulbs from the right side and still no luck so it aint down to bulbs.. any ideas? Im getting fed up of this car!!

Has the connector block come off the bulb holder slightly? Or have you fitted the bulbs the correct way round in the holder ( twin filament bulbs have offset pins on bulb base)

Did you disconnect the battery before you started? Possibly shorted something when you had 'difficulties' and blown a fuse or three?

Nah ive had the connector block right off and on multiple times and ive had the bulb in and out multiple times but still no luck, and isnt it strange that its caused my brake light and side light to stop working?

Also checked all fuses, i touched the metal with pliers but all fuses are in tact that the manual directed me to, and no i never disconnected the battery mate

Did you check the fuses for continuity with a meter, or just look? Often you cannot see the burn.

My glow plug light has just came on, could it be to do with this? And is it driveable with the glow plug light on?

The glow plug light comes (it's OK to drive) on when a brake light fails, have you also checked the earth wire.

I dont know where all the wires or relays etc are, all ive checked is the fuses :/

Bet you 20p you've popped a fuse, so either check them properly (continuity test), or replace them all one at a time.

Do you have / know how to use a multimeter? If not, take it to a garage / friend who knows what they are doing - electrical faults can be a nightmare..

Yeah im far too inexperienced so i reckon ill just buy some fuses tomorrow haha

this thread seems to state the relay, but by sounds of it its likely to be a fuse if you had difficulties you may have shorted, have you got a haynes manual as it would show the wiring diagram.

Where are the relays located in the car? I dont have a haynes manual no :/

need a hand pal?

two heads are better than one and all that. Perhaps looking at one that does work next to yours might help locate the problem? (check my fuses against yours for example).

get yourself a haynes manual dude, or if someone on here knows a downloadable free copy of the electrics hint hint

Fuse F34 (5A) protects the LH sidelight and tail light. F33 protects the RH side similarly. You could try swapping the fuses.

F2 and F13 (10A) protect the stop/brake lights and reversing lights respectively.

I'd guess you need a new F34.

Spot on mate you were right, thanks! But would this cause my glow plug light to come on though?

As stated earlier - the glow plug light shows up when you have a bulb out as well.

Fix the fuse, and the glow plug light should go out.
