...........the success continues

post-94938-0-99976700-1353573956_thumb.jpg

I am surprised that the Mazda 3 scored 4 stars on exterior, which I assume means paintwork. There are known issues with Mazda paint, the thickness and quality, and people are finding rust on relatively new cars.

I've owned both a Mazda 323 & Mazda 6. Both cars rusted terribly around the rear wheel arch area when they were relatively young cars.

Mazda customer care was next to useless, hence the reason I'm now driving a Skoda.

5 stars for performance on a Kia ceed ? Who votes in these surveys old people ? Quality is getting better but they still feel cheap

Have you been in one? I think they are cracking for the money.

where has this been soured from? I have a few people to rub this in the face of :)

We have new 1.6 diesel eco estates at work. They are a vast improvement on our old Astras. They are a bit gutless but once up to speed they cruise in a refined manner.Equipment is very good. The plastics aren`t quite up to scratch. Forgive the pun but the door card and some other areas scratch very easily. Otherwise they are pleasant to be in.

Yes, they seem to be popular with thrifty at the minute. The i30 is another that we have had a few of. Those results will have been pleased on the previous generation which is even worse. I had a quick look at an i35 at the weekend, the paintwork was lots of orange peel and the plastics looked cheap when looking through the window. Kia are no longer cheap, the 7 year warranty is ok but it's only usefull if you keep it for 7 years. For me 7 days would be enough.

Id like to see how good that warranty is after so many miles ect. Although they are good my partners father has one and the gearbox did go bang last month (little brother driving atm..hmmm) and i believe they changed it with no questions asked which cost Kia £1000+ with a free hire car.

My previous Santa-Fe was a very comfortable place to be and was ultra reliable and very solid all be it rather mundane, having said that my Scout is pretty much the same, a little more exiting to drive but just as comfortable and thus far reliable provided you don't believe everything the swindling dealers tell you.

These type of surveys are for new cars and are based on warranty statistics.

The real test is for used reliability - and when they are about six years old - THEN you get a completely different picture. From personal experience of six months, I would give the Skoda Octavia a 2 star rating.

Now come at me with a pair of bananas.

Based on cars I've owned my ratings would be:-

Renault 5 - 5 Stars

Renault Clio - 4 Stars

Rover 620 - 5 Stars

Rover 75 - 0 Stars (awful bloody car)

Fiat Brava - 5 Stars

Chrysler Neon/Voyager - 5 Stars

Skoda Octavia (7 years old) - 5 stars

I'm sure my personal ratings don't reflect the warranty stats on these cars..........Sometimes you just get unlucky and have a Lemon.

A colleague had a 2007 Honda Accord.......a car he bought because he assumed it would be reliable. It was a complete disaster.........requiring a new clutch/flywheel, a new timing chain and it snapped an aircon compressor pulley amongst other things. He traded it in after spending £3000 on repairs in 1 year of ownership!

The JD results are from a survey of owners of cars 1 to 3 years old.

From their information;

Between them, they drove almost 360 million miles to give you the lowdown on their cars' reliability, practicality, desirability, dealer service standards and, crucially, how much of a dent buying them made in their bank balances.

Seems pretty fair to me.

But what I really want to know is how is my 4 year old car going to be?

10 mins in a car means nothing though so not sure how you can form a view in that time.

First impressions count :) plastics lower down are cheap, they arn't particularly great on fuel. It's like they are trying too hard and trying to be a golf which despite the improvements they are not. They are not cheap either.

I had a 2004 Accord for about 2 years and it never missed a beat. You can't judge a make of car on one persons misfortune with said make.
