This is a picture of the polo 1.9 TDi engine bay. Obviously it's the same as my vRS SE except I don't have the cover on the bottom right (battery)

Is there a reason I don't have on? Should I have one?

You should. My 1.9tdi Fabia has one. Just protects the contacts. Not needed, but keeps things tidy!

I also have one.

Looks like I will have to source one. I like the idea everything is covered :(

Anyone got one for sale lol.

A couple on eBay or maybe message one of the breakers yards and see if they have any.

Sorry - incorrect answer. The BLT engined Fabia vRS does not have this cover - the earlier cars do since they have a different battery.

But you also I presume have an earlier car which came with the full cover.

No. Some people have adapted the cover from the earlier car, but your car - and mine - came without the full cover merely having a "cage" which clips over the battery. I agree it looks a bit vulnerable to water, particularly when you open the bonnet and water drips off it into that area.

I think the ASZ cars came with them and BLT didn't :-/

I wasn't aware they didn't do it for the BLT engine, cheers.

As said, blt engines have a different design battery case so never had the covers. They don't retro fit either without some chopping.

Bugger.

:)

It's actually made up of about 6 separate parts.

Had one on my 54 vRS.

As DRJ says, older ones have 'em

newer ones don't.

Ohh, so mine's not meant to have one then? Thought I was gonna have to go on a scrappy hunt, guess not.

I wouldn't mind a new one, I left mine on the floor next to the car when I was fitting my hids and my 3 year old son decided to come outside and see what I was doing ... and stood on it! leaving it scraped and nasty!

My BLT on 55 plate has one?

I've been to have a look and can confirm that it's not a few parts stuck together etc.

Good - the last posting seems to confirm - assuming that's an original cover which the poster hasn't actually declared - that the battery change actually occurred slightly after the engine change - not surprising since Skoda seem to apply an incremental approach to updating (my supposedly post 2004 facelift car had the old fascia for instance).

How do you retro fit the cover to a BLT battery?

I have cover envy.

I suspect it's trial and error - getting one then butchering it to fit.

The difficulty you may have it getting it to fit over the electrical bits as I think they are different between the two.

Here is everything it's made up of. Can be a little fiddly clipping everything in after having the battery out but looks neat:

I suspect what people want though is just the cover without the battery box it clips onto

Yea if part #5 can be sourced separately and then modified to fit it would be easier.

It has to have the base parts of the casing for the top cover to clip to.

Yes - but you also need the cage over the newer battery for all the electrics - will the two be compatible? Seems like it would be easier making up some brackets to attach just the cover over the existing assembly.

The top cover normally clips onto part 20 which in turn clips onto part 4 which in turn clips into part 11.

Phil

I'll go without.
