Changin oil on mkII VRS

Featured Replies

Hey everyone. Just wondered if anyone had seen a guide or tips for changing the oil on a MK II VRS? Just wanted to see if there was anything in particular I should be aware of before getting grubby under the car. Do I need any special tools, and is there anything which isnt just as straightforward as removing the sump plug, drain and refill?

Thanks!

If anything close to the Fabia VRS MK 1, you will have little torx headed screws which holds the engine under-tray in place.

A 19mm headed sump nut, and probably the oil filter plastic headed nut is a 36mm (does vary maybe a 38mm) on different models.

Otherwise it's like most cars in general, no big problems.

You could buy one of these:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/oil-fluid-extractor-6ltr/21663 or one of these:

http://www.pelapumps.co.uk/default.aspx?a10page=pl6000

Set it up, go and have a cup of tea, remove the filter, install a new filter and oil and all done without lying on the floor or having to jack the car up.

Yeap that's the way, just do it often enough though so no build up of crap in bottom, I do mine every 5 k miles

Hmm yeh I might have to invest in one of those at some point. Did it the messy way, which worked out pretty clean thankfully. Only a couple of drips on the floor. All straight forward and simple, although I did discover there are 2 different filters listed for the VRS. Not sure what the difference is, but it wont matter to the warranty as its the correct part... PHEW!!

Not so.

The under tray on the mkII is small and does not restrict access to the sump drain plug,so doesn't need removing.

So,with the filter being easily placed for access at the top of the engine, the job could hardly be easier, draining it in the conventional way.
