I've been researching this one for ages and still getting nowhere with it. The 1.4 16v's noted for using a fair amount of oil, and from what I can tell, Shell V Power and 5/30 fully synthetic seems to be the best all rounder, and I've noticed that the oil consumption has dropped.

However, I'm using Castrol Edge at the moment, would there be any difference if I saved myself something like a tenner and started using Magnatec instead?

No, edge is the balls and magnatec isn't near the quality.
