SAI delete

Featured Replies

Ive tried searching for this but seem to hit a blank! Probably just me being an idiot and not searching properly but thought i would post

So ive done the SAI delete, well ive unplugged the pump, capped off the vacuum and used a 470ohm resistor on the bit under the manifold but i keep getting a fault every 3 days of 'secondary air flow system - through flow defective' i found from other forums that 330ohm are the normal resistors that are used but 470ohms has been used and worked fine and is easier to get hold of (maplin) so is it the resistor? Or am i missing something is there something else I'm suppose to resistor and not the bit under the manifold?

Any help would be great as I'm trying my hardest to sort this before next week

There a pain and the only way to get rid 100% is to have it mapped out

Hmm damn! Thought that might be the case! I think i will be plugging it back in again until ive got the bits sorted so go stage 2 :( hate that noise of sai! Lol

just take the fuse out on top of the battery. no more noise.

whattttt!? i never even thought of that! haha but then i will still have the valve opening and closing wont i? or if i take the fuse out and disconnect the vacuum pipe and block it off will i still get the eml?

just take the fuse out on top of the battery. no more noise.

Does this actually work? What benefits would it have?!

Bit or a dumb ass when it comes to electrical type stuff

only real benefits it has is a cleaner engine bay and no noise on cold start up

Mine sequels and i just don't like the sound of the exhaust blow its makes even if it is only for a minute!

Oh right so "performance" increase as such

yep.. mines still attached and plugged in. i have removed the fuse and all the horrible piping and its fine. no EML.

oh right thought you would have had yours 'deleted' when mapping otherwise i would have asked you first! haha ill do that and see how it goes then :)

Intresting the resistance of the component must be keeping the light off. Will measure the resistance accross mine as intend to remove it and will try a resistor before I remove it and see how it operates. But then if fuse is removed would be open circuit. Will look up the wiring diagram

Well tbh i think gee has luck on his side lol im just gonna plug it all back in for next week as i dont want it popping up it will frustrate me lol and when i get back i will try a couple different things but think i will have to get it mapped out when i get the cash

Yeah if you just want to turn it off, but leave the hardware there, you can remove the SAI system relay (J299). Located in the relay box on the bulkhead, near the air box.

Last winter when I finally had enough of the noise I tracked down the relay for the system and removed it. By removing the relay you deactivate the entire SAI electrical system (N112 and pump). After a number of on/off cycles you will however get an error code and light for the relay. I deemed the light easier to live with than the noise at the time!

The fuse for the J299 relay is the last of the big metal ones on the right hand side of the battery fuse box. Since I just pulled the relay I left the fuse alone.

Having an engine light on does irritate you though, so I got Shark to map it out properly shortly after. Then removed pump etc. Never looked back since. That damn pump was so embarrassing and irritating! Working on the front of the engine is now so much easier too.

P.S. From all the hundreds of threads I've read on this, resistors will not keep the engine light off. Some people get them working for a few weeks, but that's as good as it gets.

Oh, if anyone is refitting an SAI pump to their car, I have 3 new pump mounts available that I never used. They are the rubber isolators that screw into the pump body and go through the bracket. I'll pop them up in the for sale section at some point.

Late here but having issues with sai at the moment... if I pull the sai fuse (j299) will that get rid of all the sai components running ?? Even the combi valve ?? Tia

You may stop the pump running by pulling the fuse, but the system will periodically check that the pump is present at times of low demand i.e sitting at traffic lights. If it can't sense it there through the wiring system it will throw a check engine light on the dash. As said above, only real way to stop it if you intend to delete the sai is to map it out, as resistors can be patchy in operation, and replace the combi valve with a blanking plate.

I've been looking at that... if I pull the fuse will that stop the whole sai system including the combi valve or just the pump?? ... I think going forward I'm definitely gonna remove the lot I just need to do a bit more learning before I attempt it 🤣... and thank you for your help on this Phil I appreciate it 👍
